    GREAT! Then you qualify

We're starting a study on the economic aspects of various shelter programs and wanted to see if any forum members would be interested in participating. We're particularly interested in how the implementation of certain programs affected budgets.

If you'd be interested in participating, you can just respond "yes" to this thread, or PM/email me directly. Your economic data will definitely remain anonymous!

    Thanks so much

Can you let us know a bit more about what is involved in this study please?  What is the time commitment?  Our shelter would consider it but needs more information.  How long is this study going on for?  What are the goals?

    Sure thing!

We're interested in looking at the economic costs and benefits of implementing various intake prevention practices (community cat diversion, managed intake, safety net, etc.). We are particularly interested in municipal shelters, and how these practices have affected their budgets. We're working with a couple of folks with a background in econometrics.

The time commitment on the part of the shelters will be minimal: Just a phone call or two, and some online forms to fill out. We're still designing those, but wanted to do some preliminary info gathering first to help inform the design.

Thanks so much for your interest!

Hi Mike.  Andrew Rowan from HSUS has been collecting data on per capita expenditures related to animal control statewide and in some targeted communities among other things.  He'd be a great resource - my 2 cents!
