One of the first things I’d change is lowering adoption fees for our long stay dogs and cats!

Convenience killing would no longer be an option. 

I would implement more standardized training for new employees and volunteers, as well as quarterly career-based one on ones.

Give all our full time animal care staff a raise. They work their butts off and know our animals better than anyone. They are the ones making sure each animal has the toys they like, note subtle changes in behavior and keep them company. We need to keep good workers around with a competitive wage that allows them to care for their families. 

That, or make spay/neuter a pay-what-you-can system or free with a suggested donation sign. Preventing unwanted litters is the #1 way we can all get to no-kill!

Actually I changed my mind. I know what I'd do - make our animal welfare organization 100% vegan. Whether it's a public event, catered lunch, vending machine or corporate partner, we should ensure that the dollars that were donated to us don't go to fund animal cruelty.

You know, since we rescue animals, we probably shouldn't eat them :)
