Adopted a second  cat,  male neutered 3-4 yrs..  Resident cat spayed female 4 yrs.    Brought him  home May 31.  Kept  them separated with screen eight weeks waiting to be cleared for FeLeuk.  They tried attacking each other thru the screen often.  July 27th removed screen.  Put up pheromone diffuser.  It has been four weeks of stalking, attacks, chasing, fur flying and tension in between times of times of sitting fairly close.   Both cats seem to want to be alpha.  This has totally changed my sweet girl.   She is stressed to the max and has even gotten nippy with me.  We intervene to stop the  fighting and to allow her to use her box and access food.  Nothing happens at night and they nap a lot, thankfully.  He is affectionate and cuddly.  What little affection I used to get from her is now nonexistent.  Adoption group cannot take him back.  We leave on a long road trip in six weeks to our winter locale.  Just bought calming treats but not hopeful. Thought of this going on in hotel rooms and stress of traveling on both kitties has me heartsick.

San Francisco has a great behavior library.  https://www.sfspca.org/behavior-training/cat-behavior-resources.  I would start there.  I would also try to find a behaviorist in your area who could do a home visit.
