I'm hoping you can help me, or point me in the best direction.

I have a client who has a residential living facility for seniors who are deaf, blind, or deaf-blind (i am a fundraising consultant)

We are working to build a dog park for their service animals but need some direction on specific needs, designs, etc.

Do you know anyone who might have done such a project, or who might have insights on things we need to have in our plan?

Wheelchair access, rules for success since some folks won't be able to get to dogs if a fight broke out, etc.

Paved path on the perimeter for wheelchair, etc.

I want to make sure we are thinking of all the needs so we price the project accordingly.

Any thoughts? Thank you so much for any help you can offer

    Mandy

HI Mandy, What a great and wonderful project!!I don't have experience in building a dog park but at Muttville we work with seniors and dogs and I would love to help and find out more about your project. How much space do you have? will there be some ground rules about dogs being spayed and neutered and dog-social? We have visitors in wheelchairs and their friends come to Muttville often for our Cuddle Club. It's been such a great success, it offers dog lovers that can't have a dog a chance to enjoy their love. I could see this attracting those seniors without dogs, too.

This community is specifically for seniors who are deaf, blind or deaf-blind. It is the only nonprofit community of its' kind in the US. they do not have a lot of experience with this type of thing, but i have more and as their grant writer am trying to get a handle on this and figure out best practices, etc. These folks will be residents of the facility where the park is. I am not sure if it will be open to anyone else, but I doubt it. I also don't know if they have even considered regulations for residents around the dogs. most are service animals. feel free to email me at mandy@fundingforgood.org
