I decided to come to Maddie's Fund after reading about a "shelter" in Mamou, Louisiana on One Green Planet.  They {as in one dedicated woman} has a grand total of $12,000 to run this operation.  They are located in one of the poorest parishes in the state from what I am reading. They don't have enough money to buy what they need including worm medicine.  They had 2 puppies who died this week because they didn't have $2 worth of medicine to give them.  They have no heat, no a/c, no beds for these animals.  There have been some donations made, both financial and items from their wish list.  SNARR Animal Rescue Northeast is actually handling the logistics since there seems to be a problem with thievery. I've been following this very closely wondering what I could do from afar.  Then I got to thinking about groups like Maddie's Fund, PetSmart Charities, the Bissell Foundation, iHeartDogs/Greater Good wondering how, or if, I could get them involved.  I'm hoping that someone would read this and have some suggestions on how we can, collectively, get some badly needed assistance for this group.  Thank you.

Have they/you written a grant request before? Or have you thought about putting out a request for a volunteer who might be able to help? All of the organizations you mentioned have awesome grants available to apply for. It can be time consuming to request/manage grant funding, but definitely worth it in the long run!
