About three weeks ago my dog had giving birth to two puppies and since then she has been really thin and bony. I thought it might be from the puppies so I started feeding her a little more, but she is still bony and I don’t know what to do.

    Hey ! :)

You might be doing this already, but at the rescue I volunteer at we help mamma's who come in underweight or lose weight after labour while lactating by feeding them a mix of puppy wet food and puppy dry food! This helps them kind of get back what they lost / are losing because its going to the puppies.

    I hope this helps :)

Hi Alyssa. Nursing moms need a lot of calories to keep up with those puppies, so increasing not just the volume of the food but ensuring that it is higher calorie can really help during this time. Feeding the mom puppy food as Molly suggested is a great way to increase calories. If you can afford to add some puppy formula to mom's food, that can also help. When I've fostered moms with pups, I've fed the moms as much food as they want, over multiple meals each day. Just keep those calories comin'!
