Does anyone have a great behavior observation data collection tool they're willing to share? I'm looking for ways for our staff to easily collect and report behavior from time of intake through the animal's entire LOS. Big plus if it ties in with PetPoint! Thanks in advance!

So unfortunately neither of these are digital but they're what we use in my shelter to track behavior. Canine Daily Observe and Feline Daily Observe. One per every animal that enters our shelter. We (try to) fill them out every day. We have one binder for the cat observes and another for the dogs. Filling these out if pretty easy, if a bit time consuming. We also have two other binders, one for dogs and one for cats, that the volunteers fill in with their concerns, medical or behavioral; they get checked by staff everyday.

Not sure if these were exactly what you were looking for or not.

Hi Nichole -- have you considered customizing something like with GoCanvas?  If you scroll down to the bottom you'll see they created a number of pet related templates already.  There might be something you could tweak or create with them that will meet your needs.  I used some of their mobile forms awhile back for some other needs and used the free trial to know they'd work before paying.

We use petpoint. We just add memos for behavioral observations, and conditions if it's a specific behavior noted. For example, I added a "kennel stress" condition so that staff can go in, add that if they see the behavior, and put it on review for the next day I'm in so that I'm flagged to that behavior and can provide meds, Adaptil, enrichment, etc if needed. It works great for us. We can also then resolve the condition if the meds help and the animal is no longer exhibiting that behavior. You can also add behavioral "tests" and we used these to record playgroup interactions. Let me know if you want more details.

I'm working with a shelter to put one of these together right now.  We're currently in the pilot stage where we're figuring out what is working and how we need to tweak it.  The goal is to follow the pet from the minute they walk in the door to the moment they leave in a standardized way through the shelter.  We are checking boxes on objective behaviors observed rather than trying to just log interpretations.  Once we're happy with it, I'm willing to share.

The shelter currently has a government electronic system that isn't compatible with much, so we're using paper and scanning right now.  If anyone if more tech savvy than me and wants to try to help my form play nice in the sandbox with other programs, let me know!

I'd love to see it when it gets past the pilot stage.  Thank you.

We use Petpoint memos as well. We have a behavior concern memo, where staff can enter concerns. Our volunteers fill out a paper form and turn it into the front desk for staff to input. Then behavior staff checks the memo report throughout the day. Behavior staff can also enter their own observations, updates on protocols, etc. It works really well, I think! We use the test function for playgroup also.

Bound Angel's University has an app that allows you to save pdfs and upload them to any shelter software.  I absolutely recommend looking into it because I love the layout and format!  Also, volunteers can download it and utilize it as well!

We utilize the Care Activity, Behavior Test, and Memo options in the Petpoint system to track behavior data!
