We have 3 full time staff members, approximately 15 part time staff members.  Turnover is high so that number is always changing.  On average, we adopt out 150 cat/kittens per year and 1,000 dogs/puppies per year.  We are a limited admissions shelter.

I know this probably doesn't compare apples to apples since we are a large, open-admission municipal shelter but our adoption to staff ratio is 179 adoptions for each employee in the facility (including mgnt staff and our entire animal control section). Our ratio for the people actually processing the paperwork (customer service staff) is 1423 pets per employee, per year.

I work for a managed intake shelter and we are small, we only have 2 of us doing adoptions for cats and we did 326 adoptions last year.

We have the founder and executive director, a full-time shelter manager, a 3/4 assistant, and a part-time adoption coordinator. I work part-time from home doing marketing, etc. Right now we are hoping to rescue and hope upwards of 1,000 dogs this year, possibly more, which will be an increase of a couple a hundred dogs. Nearly 100% of our dogs are rescued from a high kill shelter in KY.

How do you handle the cleaning end?  Do you have volunteers that take care of that?

The staff has a very rigorous schedule each day. But we are finally getting volunteers to come in twice a month. We are near the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and there are many groups there who need volunteer hours. We don't allow under 18 to come so we have to turn away the high school groups. Our big challenge is that we need a volunteer coordinator.
