  • 1.  Red spot on kitten's whisker area

    Hello,

I'm new to the forum, and I just adopted an 8 week old kitten on Monday. His name is Ferb, and he is an absolute sweet heart. Playful, full of snuggles and cuddles, confident, a good eater, and so far perfect with the litter box. My understanding is that he was in a foster home prior to being available for adoption at a local PetSmart. Yesterday I noticed a small red spot with no fur on Ferb's face around where his whiskers protrude. It's only about the size of a pencil eraser, it's not scaly, and it doesn't seem to bother him or itch. Any thoughts on what it could be? I'm planning to take him to the vet tomorrow anyway for an initial check-up, but I'm a little worried that it could be ringworm. Is that likely or is there another more likely explanation? Thanks for any help or advice!

Ringworm would be on my differential list, but of course it could be as simple as a little wound that the kitten got from playing with his littermates.  I'm glad you brought Ferb (love the name!) to the vet!  Hopefully they were able to shed some light on the situation.
