    Posted 06-05-2019 11:52 AM

In May we came home to our 4 month old pitbull with red tissue bulging out of his rectum. On May 16 we took him to emergency to find out he has a prolapsed rectum and is in need of surgery

We then apply for care credit and got approved for the procedure, not including meds. He stayed overnight for the procedure for the next 5 days he ate a soft diet which consisted of boiled rice ans chicken. We then took him to Redwood to get the stitch removed. Everything looked fine until later that evening his rectum was exposed all over again. I have receipts for the procedure and meds. We called both Vets to inform them. They want us to pay all over again. My dog ia dying because I cannot afford this again. Somebody please help? What are my options?

Ask shelters if they know of any help you could get . Start a go fund me page . I also would to talking to the vet that did the work I feel they should do it again at know charge .

The vet can't guarantee that the problem won't come back. With a living breathing pet, we do what is best and what is most likely to work, but that doesn't guarantee that it will work. That's the challenge with medicine, unfortunately :(

    Hi Katrina,

I'm so sorry to hear about what is going on with your dog- he's so cute!!

Prolapsed rectums can be really frustrating. In most cases, they stay in after the procedure, but in other situations they don't and the problem comes back again. Theres no way to guarantee that it will fix.... cos with medical issues, it all depends on the underlying reason its happening and whether that is resolved.

What city are you in? Sometimes there are funds at veterinary clinics that can help out. Other times you might be able to find funding or do crowd fundraising to raise money for treatment. Here's a good website with resources: https://www.banfield.com/banfield-foundation/resources

You also might apply for crowdfunding through waggle.org. Its a site where you sign up, they verify the problem with your vet, and they help you to raise funds for your dog.

Please let us know if you start a crowd funding site, or if you need any help doing it.
