Hello.i have a fourteen year old pit female. I have had her since she was five weeks old. I took her to the vet a week ago and was told she has a tumor on her left eye on the third eye lid. She said sheay not survive the surgery because of her age and if she did and the tumor was removed it may grow back. The whole procedure is about $850 which I do not have. I am on ssdi and feel helpless. I need help to help her. The tumor is growing. I am reaching out.

I'm trying to understand what you are asking. Are you looking for funding for the surgical procedure? If so, I know a lot of private parties and 501c3 have had luck with using a crowd sourcing page like GoFund me to raise money.

There will always be risk with any procedure involving anesthesia. Does your girl have any other underlying health issues that may make her a poor risk for a procedure? The other thing I would recommend is talking to your veterinarian about hospice or palliative care. Things you can do to keep her comfortable if surgery is not a good or affordable option for you. Quality of life is always very important to me and I wouldn't personally put a senior animal through a procedure that will reduce that quality in any way. 14 years is an amazing amount of time to have with any pet. good luck with her

Thank you for responding. The vet said her heart and lungs sound good. I do have a go fund me page on fb, I have had no luck. I am beginning to think I just may have to let life happen and let nature take its course. I am very heartbroken. But I do realize I stop nature from its purpose.

You might want to check with other vets, sometimes there are significant price differences. On the other hand I agree with what others said, 14 years is pretty amazing for a pit. Is your dog in pain or discomfort? Is the tumor fast growing? If not, she might be just fine for quite a while without any surgery.

Good morning. I will be taking her to another vet next week to see what he says. Yes it is growing and gets this mucus like discharge daily. I am very concerned about her and will do what is ethically appropriate. Thank for your response. I appreciate it.
