  • 1.  Wolf Hybrid Testing of Dogs

Hi, Do any of you do wolf hybrid testing of dogs who may have some physical characteristics of being a hybrid?  Hybrids are allowed in our state, but you must have a permit to knowingly have a wolf hybrid dog.

We had some puppies adopted who adopters DNA tested, and came back as being 25% wolf.  Now some of our management team wants to test any dog who has some wolf-like characteristics.  I think this setting a bad precedent and could lead to breed discrimination in terms of dogs we take in (ie. not taking any Husky type dogs).

I was just curious if any of you have experience with this?  Thanks!

It seems that a lot of people think its special to own a wolf hybrid.  It makes me sad.  We see many people who claim their dog is hybrid, but we tend to put them down as husky mix, as it is not legal to work with an animal over a certain percentage hybrid.  I agree that it is not going to ultimately benefit the animals if they are formally identified as hybrid.
