Has anyone ever hired a vet who needed training and asked that vet to sign an agreement to stay a certain amount of time (say 6 months) or pay training costs back? Things are so competitive right now that we'd hate to lose our investment. But also don't want to offend the prospective employee. Are such agreements a thing in the vet world, particularly in the animal welfare space?

It is an excellent idea.  We don't have a vet on board since we are a small rescue.   Have you thought of contacting near-by Vet Schools, particularly HBCU Vet Schools to provide an opportunity to a newly graduated veterinarian?   I am in the Nashville area and we are suffering from a shortage of Vets, particularly independent vets as most practices are being taken over by the Corporations.  My current personal vet is moving to a new office and will need a second vet to come on board soon.  He mentioned that there are more retiring that coming into our area.  It will get tougher in time.
