  • 1.  Australian Vet traveling to North America for shelter visits and conferences

    Posted 16 days ago

    Hi all,

My name is Juliana, and I am a Shelter Veterinarian with RSPCA Victoria in Australia. I will be travelling across North America in April and early May to attend several conferences, and I am hoping to visit a number of shelters during this time.

I am very interested in learning more about your current medical, behavioural, adoption, post adoption and community support programs, and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with your team. I would also value the chance to tour your facility, as our organisation is currently exploring expansion of a new shelter site, and I am keen to gather ideas around facility design and operational flow.

My travel dates are between 1 April and 6 May, and I will be visiting the following cities:

    • Washington, DC

    • Pittsburgh

    • Boston

    • New York City

    • Toronto

    • Vancouver

    • Seattle

    • San Francisco

    • Las Vegas

    • Los Angeles

If your shelter is located in one of these cities and would be open to a brief visit, I would be very grateful. Please feel free to reply with your shelter name and best contact details, and I will follow up directly to arrange a suitable time. I will ensure the visit is concise and respectful of your schedule.

Thank you in advance, and I look forward to connecting!!

    Hi Juliana,

I do not represent any shelters but funny enough, I have been eager to talk to international vets working in shelter medicine and community prevention. I'm starting work that revolves around supporting rescues and bringing more veterinary support to local communities, and insight from someone like you would be very helpful!

You mentioned you'll be attending conferences this April- any chance you'll be at the Animal Care Expo in Pittsburgh? I'd love to meet you! Feel free to reply privately :)

    Hello from another RSPCA 😊

We are a bit out of your way, but the Roanoke Valley SPCA (4 hours from DC in Roanoke, Virginia) would be happy to have you visit. I could also connect you with a few of our local shelter partners to see about visiting them too. For example, we are a private shelter but we partner closely with the public/government-funded shelter in town.

Have a wonderful trip either way!

    Hi Erin,

Thank you so much for the offer, due to limited time in this trip I won't be able to make it to virginia. However, If there is any way that we can connect virtually even for an hour to have a chat about a few programs that your shelter provides (for crisis support and post adoption support and resources), i would love to use the opportunity to connect with your team.

    My email address is juliana_xue@hotmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you!
