"Hi everyone! I wanted to share a tribute to one of our 10 successful German Shepherd rescues from this past year. Haven came to us from a horrific neglect situation-starving, living in a tiny pen with no fresh water, and facing a very grim future.
Because we operate a 24/7 in-home foster and rehabilitation model, Haven came to live directly inside my house. With the patience of my personal dogs, Boo and Harlow, Haven learned how to decompress, play, build confidence, and trust humans again. She was successfully adopted into a wonderful, loving family just in time for the holidays.
I wrote this poem for her on her adoption day, and wanted to share it as a testament to why intensive, home-based breed rescue !
The Tribute:
Always hungry never full,
Didn't have a water bowl.
Nowhere warm and dry to go,
Life dragged on so very slow.
All alone in a small pen,
You would die the question WHEN?
Humans looked away but ONE,
She knew something must be done.
Drove all day to rescue you,
Pleaded for help from Boos Crew.
We went to work right away,
A life was saved, happy day!
You were unsure what to do,
Da Boo patiently showed you!
No need to worry or fear,
You are safe and loved while here.
You blossomed and settled down,
Loved the car rides into town.
Gained some weight, crazy to see,
How quickly changed life can be!
Harlow showed you how to play,
Boo watched over you each day.
Precious little one, it's time,
For you to leave us behind.
To start a life all brand new,
Brave lil girl I'm proud of you!
A safe Haven you will be,
Now with a loving family! 💕
📍 Boo's Crew is an agile 501(c)(3) in Moscow, Idaho. We have a 100% adoption success rate, but we are currently capped at 4 dogs due to residential city zoning limits. We are actively pursuing a USDA loan and capital grant partnerships to expand to a 15-50 acre rural sanctuary where we can scale this in-home rehabilitation model and build a donation-based public trail system for local reactive pets.
