Would anyone be willing to share your policy for calling on microchips for animals entering your organization (when you call, how often, what info you ask, do you have a form or template for staff to use to document, do you also email/text/mail, etc)?

    Hey,

We are a cat rescue and many of the cats we take in don't have chips. If they do, we will scan and usually check with the two largest shelters in our area as odds are, the cat was chipped there. In instances where that is not the case, we will call the microchip company directly and give our rescue name and ask for information on the owner of the animal and who put the chip in so we can also contact the original rescue to see if they want to take the cat back in.

We call the number listed and send an impoundment mailer to the address listed on the chip.  Our State requires a 3 day hold but we usually do five if there is a chip.
