Position Description: Development Assistant
The Development Assistant is a key part of the Development Team and is responsible for all operational and administrative support of annual fundraising from supporters of the organization so CVHS can continue to help animals and their people. Key duties involve donor database management, processing gifts and acknowledgments, assisting with direct mail, event coordination, and general development tasks, requiring strong organization, attention to detail, and communication skills. The Development Assistant reports directly to Co-Director of Development and Finance (CDF), and collaborates with the Leadership Team and BOD Stewardship Committee to execute development efforts. Position created with the possibility for advancement. This position is based in Vermont.
Position Duties
• Under the direction of the Co-Director of Development and Finance, supports a relationship-based giving program that includes strategic donor cultivation plans with the goal to grow annual development income
• Manage, update and ensure accuracy of our donor database
• Processes and tracks donations, including donor information using Little Green Light (LGL)
• Manages gift acknowledgement process and produces and mails out donor thank you letters on a weekly basis
• Implements direct mail, email, and social media solicitations
• Generates reports as needed from LGL and third-party fundraising platforms
• Reconcile LGL reports with the finance reports with Finance/Admin staff
• Communicates and tracks stewardship tasks with BOD Stewardship Committee as assigned by Co-Director of Development and Finance
• Identifies, solicits, and attains corporate sponsorships for appropriate events
• Under direction of the Co-Director of Development and Finance, responsible for all coordination and tasks required for Development event planning, preparation and execution: event space/food/beverage contracts, soliciting inkind gifts for auction items and prizes, and other needed resources
• Designs marketing materials, event brochures, posters, and display materials as needed
• Contributes to Development communications • Assists in administrative duties related to development
• Researches and completes Giving Grant Applications
• Participates and assists in other CVHS events
• Stays current on new techniques and fundraising opportunities
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all data, especially that of donors
• Other duties as assigned, which may include animal care when needed
Position Details and Conditions
• Position is full-time 40 hours a week, M-F schedule
• After training period, some remote work possible (must reside in VT)
• Valid driver's license required
• CVHS administrative offices are up a full flight of stairs
• At times, there are animals in the administrative offices
• This position requires a background check
Position Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
• Three years' experience managing a comprehensive giving program preferred
• Charismatic and inspirational to support our mission, with an ability to build long-lasting relationships
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
• Experience with donor management software and donor data analysis a plus
• Working knowledge of social media tools
• Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with staff and volunteers
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Well organized and results-oriented
• Enthusiasm for the mission of CVHS
• Ability to work a flexible schedule as job demands; some weekends (2-4 times a year) and evenings required
