  • 1.  Cheaper options than Revolution Plus for cats for deworming, flea/tick and ear mites...

    Posted 10-05-2023 04:46 PM

Does anyone have any suggestions? I know that cheaper ways of treating these issues may require a combination of different meds (for example Virbantel and Selarid). We are looking to build a free to low-cost veterinary access program for the public. Thanks!

    Hi Christy

if you're not already enrolled, pharmaceutical companies, like Midwest Vet, Covetrus, and Shelter…something; I'm blanking… have rescue/shelter programs where you can purchase the products much, much cheaper. In the selection they often have generics, so it costs much less. I can't remember all the cat products bc we only do dogs, but I know they have generic Revolution (starts with an R, too) and Advantage Multi (Imoxy or Barrier) among others. We use the Imoxy and Barrier and it saves us significantly. A little search of your favorite product ingredients would pull up the generics. Hope this helps!

I'm seeing lots of "Revo burns" with these generics. Anyone else? I've seen some discussion/complaints on chewy.com reviews, just regular consumers.

The shelter and spay/neuter clinic I used to work for both used Revolution, but they would get the extra large dog version and empty the containers into a dispensing bottle to apply to cats in their care. The concentration is different for dogs and cats, therefore the dosing is different, but it your vet can help you do the calculations you can still use Revolution and save a bunch of money. Both places I worked for kept the Revolution a medication dispensing bottle with a topical syringe to pull up the correct amount based on the cat's weight. It was something line 0.1 mL per 1lb but please have a vet verify that as the dosage may have changed.
