We hope to see you on the next Maddie's Community Conversation on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 11am PT / 2pm ET  for "What You Need To Know," a conversation with Cameron Moore from University of Florida Shelter Medicine Program and Maddie's Million Pet Challenge.

Cameron Moore is a top animal welfare consultant and a leading expert in community cat programs.  After hundreds of assessments across the country for more than a decade, Cameron has a unique bird's eye perspective on successful programs and what it takes to transition. She has been an impactful change agent that has led to reduced shelter intake with solution driven pathways, shorter lengths of stay, improved enrichment for pets and better work environments for shelter staff and volunteers. In this interview, Cameron will talk about the common misconceptions in shelters and practical answers to the toughest questions.

Don't forget! Maddie's Fund will be giving away up to $10,000 in grants each month! You can enter for a chance to win each time you attend a call or watch it on demand during the month by completing the monthly giveaway drawing entry form

    Hi I had a question from today's call (6/8/2026)

I'd love to hear more about the 1 cage in the pet supermarket stores, or see a link to the program.

    Thank you, great program today!

    Hi Aine,

Thanks for joining us today! That is Cameron's non-profit, Lucky Cat Adoptions in Jacksonville, Florida. Cameron will respond and give you more info about how she is placing so many cats and kittens, often in under 2 days. She is having a hard time keeping her stores full!

    Hello Aine,

Thank you for your question. My nonprofit partners with a local pet store chain called PetSupermarket to help facilitate cat and kitten adoptions.

Each store provides us with one three-tiered cat condo where we can showcase adoptable cats daily. Every cat placed in the store is already sterilized, vaccinated, microchipped, and current on age-appropriate medical care before they arrive. We provide an adoption packet with their medical records and go home information and the stores help us finalize the adoptions.

Because the stores are open roughly 10 to 12 hours a day, seven days a week, and have steady foot traffic, the cats get wonderful exposure to potential adopters. This partnership has been a key part of our successful adoption program.

Similar partnerships may be available through businesses like PetSmart, Petco, PetSense, Tractor Supply, cat cafés, and other local retailers. We always encourage rescue groups and shelters to explore community business partnerships as another way to help pets find loving homes.

Thank you for such an informative session. Many of the points you shared really resonate with what we experience at our rescue. From the challenges of dogs being abandoned to the overwhelming pace that makes it hard to step back and see the bigger picture, rescue work is certainly tough-but also incredibly rewarding.

It has been especially difficult to build strong community involvement, though we continue to make every effort. We also found the data information you provided very valuable and plan to begin tracking more detailed information about the dogs in our care.

    Hi Laurie,
We are so happy to found the session helpful. I can promise you that Cameron and I have learned so much doing consults and think so differently now about a lot of things. As you can see, we are happy to share!

Thanks for all your hard work, commitment and dedication for the dogs who need help-you are appreciated!
