    Hi All -

How do you go about getting corporate sponsorships? What do you offer in exchange for the sponsorships? We have a newsletter but no where to put banners or a larger advertisement. Do you find companies prefer to sponsor an event? Or are willing to give general operating donations. Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Alaina,

Our board of directors came up with a list of corporate sponsor levels including a monthly donation, one time donations, event and special program sponsorships. We are a small nonprofit and I personally feel some of the levels are a bit too high but I am attaching our levels and what is included as incentives. We have had several smaller businesses sponsor our events and programs. Currently we have a volunteer who is compiling a list of local businesses such as attorneys, financial planners, animal related businesses, etc. He will be reaching out to these businesses to ask if they would like to become a community/corporate sponsor.

Thank you for sharing this, Lisa! I have also been trying to figure out a good way to approach this subject with local businesses. This is great!

We have a stock "elevator pitch" to send as cold emails to prospective corporate sponsors with giving levels and incentives.  We've done research finding companies that may have like-minded giving priorities. If they don't have a corporate foundation, we've done Google searches for appropriate contacts in Corporate Social Responsibility, Social Impact, or even marketing departments. LinkedIn is a good resource as well.  I've found they tend to either sponsor events or specific projects (not GOS). We use RocketReach to find emails. It's a subscription service, and I believe we pay $80 p/month. Good luck.

I will be following this! I am a new ED to an older organization and I'm really having difficulties breaking into a new era :( I think sponsorship has so many benefits, I'm not exactly where to start.

We have also sent sponsorship package requests to addresses found on local town's chamber of commerce lists.  We branched out further to some of the more affluent cities surrounding our area, as we are in a very rural neck of the woods. Unfortunately, we haven't had any takers yet. But, it is a good starting point to find businesses that are invested in your community (and they usually have the contact person/email/mailing address listed for their members).

Good luck!  Let us know if you find any takers!!!
