Hi Susan,
What a magnificent question...and from experience...a rabbit hole. A year ago today, our small non-profit fell into the rabbit hole of FIP treatment, and on 1/20/2024 we started treatment on our first two FIP kitties (a neuro and a dry). After that, we became the go-to place for consulting in our small, rural town of Southern Idaho. In 2024, our organization helped over 20 kitties and their families or rescues start treatment, and we provided free (in-person, phone, text) consulting (we call them FIP Stars).
My experience with the FIP kitties I have helped is that, to the best of my knowledge, only ONE was positive for FIV. The other families or rescues that could afford bloodwork, at least 15 of the 20, did not have FeLV positive kitties. While this is a VERY SMALL sample size, it has been our experience that we are seeing kitties develop FIP without being FeLV positive.
However, a synopsis by Dr. Pedersen from 2021 briefly outlines the relationship between FeLV and FIP. I've attached that pdf for your reference. There are some other references listed there that may be helpful and informative.
Regarding the one FIV positive kitty we treated for ocular FIP, she is doing GREAT!!!! We started her GS treatment on April 15, 2024, and her bloodwork at the end of 88 days showed to be "unimpressive" so we went into observation. As of October 2, 2024, her 84th day of observation, she was thriving and doing so well. Her momma messaged me on January 2nd to share pictures of this sassy and adorable floof, who has a new lease on life and is the healthiest they have ever seen her.
