I would have loved to go on a field trip where students had to be silent and sneaky in order to watch a caregiver feed or trap a feral colony!
I don't think schools offer woodshop anymore, but making feral cat houses and catios would be more rewarding than making a jewelry box.
I also think that there should be Boy and Girl Scout badges for learning about TNR.

I love that idea re. ordinances! That would talk really well to a civics / government lesson plan. I have two teachers on board and hope to meet with them over the next month to plan for fall 2023. I will update the group as this progresses.

Love this idea! I don't know of anything like this in our area (Charlotte, NC) and I don't know how receptive they would be - 24/7 unattended tether is still legal here :(
I would go even a step further and have lessons that talk about how to care for pets, what the cities ordinances are, how to find a lost pet/get a found pet back home and the general importance of Spay/Neuter.
I'd love to follow any programs you develop with schools in your area.

Hello, everyone,
Newcomer here. Happy to have found this great resource. Has anyone taken Trap Neuter Return education into their local schools? We have a few volunteers who are also middle school teachers, and I'm wondering if there's any mileage in writing a lesson plan that uses TNR as its focus. For example, TNR in an art class (designing posters, flyers, general cat art), in a biology class (cat breeding rates, effects of early spay/neuter on anatomy/health), in English classes (poetry, stories, articles). I'm thinking that getting kids involved in the philosophy of TNR might help us get a foothold in communities with unaltered cat groups.
I'd love any thoughts the group may have.
