How to get staff and volunteers to properly record Shelter Skip / Doggy Day out activity

We record data on outings for our Shelter Skip Day program using a Google spreadsheet (which should soon be converted to an app using Google AppSheet). The info recorded is basically who took the dog out, dog identification, time out and time back in. Data is recorded most often by volunteers, but also by staff.

This is not done consistently, particularly when dogs come back in - the return time simply isn't updated. We use the return time (time back in) to indicate a dog has in fact been returned (time in cell is not empty) and also later to calculate performance statistics, such as average time out, total time out for each dog.

For those of you who have a shelter skip type program and who record data, have you found any approaches that work to encourage/maximize complete recording of similar data?

    Thanks!
