I'm looking to build and expand on our shelter's educational programming. I already do informational sessions about our shelter with the public, and have done a few kids programs on site. I would like to expand this to doing Humane Education programs in schools and camps on various topics to continue to connect people to animals, the benefits of them, and our shelter's cause, and eventually develop an on-site event location to host more at our shelter as well.

For those in educational programming - what type of education and credentials do you have in order to develop and lead your programming? I have a BS in Therapeutic Recreation and am a dog trainer in training. Would you recommend the Academy for Prosocial Learning's Humane Education Specialist Cert? Are there any training or certification programs you would suggest that could help me with developing Humane Education?

    Thanks!

Thanks for wanting to get more involved with Humane Education, Tara! I definitely recommend looking into the Association of Professional Humane Educators for networking opportunity and resources.
