Is there an optimal approach to caring for a new litter of kittens and their mother as they grow? I'm wondering how much of an active role can be taken in the natural process of weaning/rearing kittens in order to decrease exposure to stress and increase any potential benefits for the socialization, adjustment, independence, and overall well-being of kittens & cats as they mature. For instance, is the best practice to allow the mother to maintain total control over time spent apart from her litter or is it beneficial to guide her away into a nearby room for short periods of time at any point during the early weeks of life?
