Rita B. Huff Humane Society is committed to supporting both pets and their owners by engaging in co-sheltering initiatives that help keep families together during times of crisis. While we primarily focus on rescuing and rehoming animals in Walker County, we recognize the importance of providing temporary solutions for pet owners facing hardship.

    Our engagement in co-sheltering includes:

    • Collaboration with Local Organizations – We work with local shelters, domestic violence programs, and emergency housing providers to explore safe accommodations for pets alongside their owners.

    • Temporary Foster Support – When possible, we assist with temporary foster placements for pets whose owners are experiencing homelessness, domestic violence situations, or natural disasters.

    • Education & Resources – We offer guidance and referrals to pet-friendly shelters and programs that can assist pet owners in need.We

    • Pet Food Pantry - We offer Pet food pantry services to all dog and cat owners to provide food and other essentials as we can.  It is our motto that no dog or cat should go hungry!

As we continue to grow, we hope to expand our co-sheltering efforts to better serve our community and ensure that no pet is left behind due to unforeseen hardships.

The Summit County Pet Food Pantry in Colorado also tries to fill the void of pet food insecurity in an effort to keep pets healthy, keep the at home with their families, and keep them out of the shelters. We carry a similar motto to FEED THEM ALL and as we grow are able to expand our distribution to include not only the people food pantries, but also Smart Bellies, the local community college, local medical clinics, and the Food  Bank of the Rockies mobile food pantry.
