I'm reaching out on behalf of our animal shelter, which relies on over 800 dedicated volunteers. We've encountered a couple of challenges and want to ensure we're approaching them thoughtfully and effectively before creating any new resources ourselves.
1. Training for Engaging Neurodiverse Individuals:
Have any of you utilized or come across training programs designed to help staff and volunteers effectively engage and communicate with neurodiverse individuals? We've had a few incidents where someone was sent home because they were acting "weird," and we want to better understand how to support and include neurodiverse community members.
2. Respectful Communication with Volunteers:
Are there any training resources or programs that address how to communicate respectfully with volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated? I'm currently dealing with a situation where a staff member's communication with other volunteers has been disrespectful, and I want to foster a more positive and inclusive environment.
Any recommendations, resources, or personal experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
