Humane Action Pennsylvania (HAP) helped to secure a massive victory for domestic abuse survivors and their pets! On January 17, 2025, PA House Bill 1210 went into effect and became Act 146, allowing animals to be included in Protections from Abuse orders. We would like to specifically thank PA representatives Christina Sappie (D) and Natalie Michalek (R) for championing this legislation. Their bipartisan support is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together. To support the implementation of Act 146, Humane Action Pennsylvania is providing resources for survivors, law enforcement, and advocates, which can be found in this link.
And remember, there are still 9 states where pets cannot be included in Protection From Abuse Orders. If you live in one of the states listed below, please feel free to reach out to HAP for advice on how you can help survivors of domestic abuse and their pets in your state.
