Petfinder - Worth the Yearly Cost?

  • 1.  Petfinder - Worth the Yearly Cost?

    Posted 05-28-2025 01:19 PM

    Aloha, fellow pet advocates!

We've been exploring Petfinder as an adoption platform, but unlike many others, they charge a hefty $900 per year. If you're using Petfinder, we'd love to hear your thoughts-what benefits do they provide that make it worth this fee? How do they compare to free services like Adopt A Pet?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated! Mahalo for your help.

Good morning.  Petfinder doesn't charge us at all.  I'm  confused why they're charging you?

I'm confused, as well. We are not charged for the use of Petfinder either.

    Thank you for your replies!

Hmmm, they are telling us that this fee is from PetPoint and PetPoint is telling us that this is Petfinder's fee. Which shelter management system do you use?

We use Pet Point, as well. We purchase the 24petwatch microchips, so there is no charge for the use of Pet Point either.

We use Petstablished for our management system.  It auto feeds to Adopt A Pet and Petfinder for us.

Petfinder was always free. Something sounds wrong.

Shelters can always manually add/remove pets to Petfinder for free. If you use PetPoint shelter software, there is a charge to automatically upload your adoptable pets. Whether or not the charge is worth it depends on how you to choose to use your staff/volunteer hours. Having pets listed on national pet search websites IS worth it since many adopters will find pets this way, especially if they're looking for a specific breed over a large area.

Definitely one more of the many reasons We will never use pet point again.

We use animal shelter manager and it auto uploads for free.

We use rescuegroups.org, which is free.  Our rescue animals are exported to over 953 adoption websites, including pet finder and adopt a pet for free. We have a free account with both petfinder and adopt a pet. There is an option to pay for extra things you can do on pet finder but, we don't use that.

    I agree, something is wrong.

Hello Denise - if you're thinking of making a move from Petfinder,  we have recently getbuddy.com Think of it like Petfinder-but with smarter tools to help adopters find their best match, plus an AI Veterinarian to support them after adoption. We also share pets across our partner network, reaching an audience of over 7M+ followers.

On top of that, we've built a fully integrated shelter management system-and it's completely free, forever. Here's what makes Buddy different:

    • Free, Forever – As a Benefit Corporation, every service we provide to rescues and shelters will always remain free.

    • No Setup Required – Your pets are already in Buddy-no installation or complicated onboarding. You can start placing them right away.

    • Post-Adoption Support – Adopters get 24/7 access to Buddy's virtual trainer and veterinarian, helping with health, training, and behavioral needs-reducing return rates.

Support is in the US and we're happy to help train you on the system, customize your adopter applications - whatever you need to get up and running.

You can see a quick demo here. If you'd like a personal walkthrough, I'd be glad to set one up.

    Best,
    Ryan

I just wanted to let you know that your demo link says [insert link] rather than providing the actual link. Your software sounds fantastic. Keep up the good work!
