I just wanted to take a moment to express Humane Action Pittsburgh's (HAP) gratitude for the incredibly insightful webinar on domestic violence. The information shared was not only eye-opening, but also deeply important for understanding how common and, oftentimes, hidden these situations are. So many people in the comments also shared personal stories of themselves and loved ones have been impacted by domestic violence and what an important role their pets play in supporting them.
HAP's leadership will be in Harrisburg, PA on October 22nd, where the PA senate will vote on HB 1210, which will include pets in Protection from Abuse (PFA) orders. This means domestic abuse survivors would not have to choose between protecting themselves and leaving their companion animals in dangerous situations. PA is one of the only states that does not explicitly allow for pets in PFA orders, so this bill would be a huge step forward for animal welfare. Please check our
Facebook page for updates on the results of the vote and, if you're in the area,
join us at the press conference. HAP is confident our representatives will come through for our companion animals!
