Sharing Training Documentation

    Good afternoon, Everyone.

We received a small grant to hire a p/t dog trainer to help work with some of our more challenged dogs and to hold group training classes to help keep training consistent.

We are working with a trainer who may be able to help us outside of her business and we are working on the details.
She's invited us to bring some of our dogs to her group training classes, in the meantime.

As we need to document training  for the dogs, how is everyone doing this? Old school on paper? Spreadsheets? ect...
Trainings would take place at the shelter and potentially at the offsite training group.

Ideally, the trainer(s) and volunteers will document their sessions and each training session would be sharable so we can track behavior and progress.

Additionally, we will be using the documentation/data for our grant reporting.

    Does this make sense?

    Thank you for your help!
    Ann

We tried multiple methods for exactly this and a shared google doc ended up working out the best!

Hello! We are a small shelter focused on dog behavior reward-based and we have a TON of documents, so not sure what specifically you are looking for, but we create protocols for each dog and our volunteers work and fill different sheets as we are also do a lot of enrichment activities, so I wasn't sure what kind of protocols you need, but we are happy to share!

    Hi Karinna,

Looks like this is an old message that got revived today :) What a kind offer!  Would you be willing to share however much you're willing to share so that i can upload to our Maddie's Pet Forum library so that others can benefit from your work long-term? You could email me (sheila@maddiesfund.org) or share via google drive and i could upload, if you're willing. Seems that there is a lot of interest in your work!

    Hi Ann,

Happy to catch-up about this topic and provide some of my own examples for you to look at, if that helps? I am a current On-call Behaviorist(But I prefer Behavior and Enrichment Specialist as I'm not a Veterinary Behaviorist), Current Professional  Certified Dog Trainer, former zookeeper, former animal management lecturer and building my portfolio for Behavior Consultant quals. with IAABC whilst working for Orange County Animal Services (Municipal Shelter). They only recently hired myself and another behaviorist (Full-time) at our shelter and we're building out this area as we go along. We are a larger shelter, intake is about 15,000 animals a year on average. With roughly 200 dogs currently.

When I get to my home computer, I'll upload what I've got--it's a work in progress and it's an amalgamation of what I do in private and shelter for dog training. But I use a mixture of google docs, forms, Microsoft forms, excel, etc. to record information.

Hope to hear from you soon, and great question! Will follow to see what others add!

    Hi Angel!

Thank you so much for reaching out! I would love to see what you are putting together for shelter dogs.

We are much smaller than your shelter, typically only about 48-50 dogs.

Any suggestions on how to efficiently document training sessions, as well as enrichment,  would be helpful for tracking purposes.

Plus we do have a trainer who has  training sessions during the cooler months.

Our dogs get daily yard time, frozen Kongs and volunteers take them to our agility yard and k9 volunteer room with puzzles, games ect...

    Any suggestions would be great!
