Hi everyone and happy new year.
I am wondering why in this day and age organizations are still euthanizing dogs with little to no intervention. So I want to take it step by step.
I would like to pose a question: If you are a Shelter or Animal Control(AC) and have a dog you chose not to place what are your specific guidelines for allowing transfer to another shelter with more appropriate resources or to an accredited rescue with resources and/or a foster? I see the gamut from organizations and AC immediately reaching out, to organizations and AC selectively reaching out either based on the dog or based on rescues/shelters they only choose to work with, to organizations and AC resisting reaching out at all . I am Not asking opinions here I am looking for your organizations concrete policy and procedure(ie: time lines, selection process, etc.) (ie: dog is in holding and this happens during that period, then dog gets evaled, based on the eval we decide if we can place or what the dog needs, if dog is not placeable w/ our shelter this happens based on this).
Thank you for your thoughtful response.
