  • 1.  Tips for Keeping Senior Dogs Comfortable and Calm

    Posted 21 days ago

    Hi everyone,

I've been looking into different ways to make life easier for senior dogs who deal with joint stiffness or anxiety. It seems like even small adjustments - like giving them softer bedding, using ramps, shorter but more frequent walks, or simple massage - can really make a difference.

I'd love to hear what's worked for others here. Have you tried any specific routines, supplements, or comfort strategies that helped your older dogs stay active and relaxed?

Sharing what's worked (or what hasn't) could really help others who are going through the same thing with their pets.

You have some great ideas already!

In addition, I use leisurely walks or swimming for low impact exercise. Lickmats are very popular with my seniors since the act is very soothing. We use scent enrichment, a Pet Acoustics sound speaker, and Senilife supplement. Oh - I also have a handheld cold laser from Amazon to target stiff/sore joints.

I've had good results with joint supplements that include glucosamine and omega-3s, plus gentle daily walks. A warm bed and routine also seem to keep my senior dog calm and happy.

Puzzle toys! My senior dog looks forward to playing with her puzzle every night - she does not really enjoy walks, so this is her big activity that wear her out. I think also stroller or wagon for dogs who can't walk very far but may enjoy new sniffs and sights. I've also used Assisi loop for arthritis - can just set it on the dog while they're sleeping.

Sniffy walks are my favorite with seniors! Let them take you wherever they want and enjoy the smells along the way. I'm also a fan of pet ramps and stairs. For supplements I typically give an omega fish oil, as well as cosequin for joints.
