    Hello!
Wanted to check in to see how your organizations are currently translating materials to other languages other than English?
Has this method been effective for your team? What is the process of translation currently? Do you use someone from your team or a translation service like google?

In my case, the team sends the documents to my department (Communications & Marketing), I run it through Google Translate and then make any corrections to that draft. In some cases, we have a college professor who teaches a translation class, and her students volunteer their time to get practice.

    Hey Debra!

We usually hire an external contractor and pay them hourly. We don't necessarily seek out someone who works as a translator, we typically hire someone fluent from within the communities that we're working with.

I'm cautious with Google Translate as it doesn't always give the correct translation, and often misses the nuances and region-specific differences that languages may have. However, I think this is a good option as long as you have someone who is fluent in the language review/check the translation.

    I hope this helps!

Being a singular person fostered based rescue, I am fortunate to have a core volunteer who is fluent in Spanish verbally and in writing.  I create the flier's on Canva and she then makes a copy of it in Canva translating it to Spanish.  This has worked for us.  We ensure we have Vaccine Clinics fliers and registration materials in English/Spanish, along with single card handouts of the adoption process and organization information.

We are working towards one day having the websites main pages translated and currently working on translating the application to foster/adopt.  Slow process as the volunteer does work full time and volunteering is as she has time.

Having the fliers, registration in Spanish has helped tremendously in communicating in the low resource areas we set up pop up clinics to ensure the information is reaching the Spanish only speakers.

My volunteer's that speak Spanish, working the clinics and Cristy who does the translation on fliers appreciated me asking if this is was something they wanted to do and not assume because they speak Spanish, they would want to do it based on that reasoning.

We recently worked with the local high school.  The Spanish class used our brochure as a "project" and the teacher proofed it to ensure it was correct.  We actually got TV coverage from the larger metro area (30 miles away).  We are small rural town with just a radio station.  We did this as part of the Maddie's Fund Open Arms Challenge actually. Here's the coverage:     https://www.wnky.com/spayed-and-aid-kentucky-expands-outreach-in-logan-county/?fbclid=IwAR1lnXBRbY2MLBPr7yEqOXwp-mmleESoOrCU0-diE8LuiRqYSI8iDnp8x0Q_aem_AZohK7bfkzj7_cBJZLnP6yY-LpGS_C5q_1vBCBRzwpZf2qNhhSehawf14IygwNTUqVq6sAY42E-ljZwNzQ_r0Yik
