We are looking at creative ways to shorten our kennel dog waiting list. We are exploring the idea of creating an online platform on our website that allows pet owners on our waiting list to create profiles for their pets for rehoming. We then are planning on conducting virtual zoom adoption events throughout the year that are similar to a speed dating approach. Each dog will have their own zoom link below their photo and a couple of attributes. When the potential adopter is interested in that pup, they click on the zoom link which takes them into a live zoom with that dog and their owner, who are both at home. The adopter can then ask any questions, etc. about the dog. SPCA Florida will then be the meeting ground for an in-person visit and "adoption."

We are planning on doing this with our adoptable dogs on-site as well. These will be separate events from the waiting list dogs. We are working on grants to cover the cost of creating the platform and also to help us spay/neuter waiting list dogs. We want to ensure all animals being rehomed through this approach are altered.

Have any of you done anything similar to this?

This is such a creative idea! We have done Facebook Live events featuring our kennel dogs for holidays like July 4 or Valentine's Day with themed graphics and dog handlers wearing themed clothes. Then after streaming live the recorded event was featured on our Facebook page where potential adopters (and fosters) could click and view dogs available. People get a much better sense of a dog's personality during a live unedited video of the dog moving around, interacting with a handler, etc. we used to get hundreds of views but no data on resulting adoptions. And it was one-way communication, this would open the channel to questions! Great idea.
