  • 1.  Where to post about a fundraising raffle?

    Posted 10-24-2024 11:38 AM

    Hi all!

I recently started a fundraising raffle to help an intake expected to have extensive medical bills (likely amputation), but it's just not getting much traction!

Where have you posted before with good results?

It's currently on the rescue Facebook page, but I'm struggling to find other places to reach a larger audience. I've been turned down in other local Facebook pages because it's fundraising/animal related.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Rather than doing a raffle have you ever tried just doing a Facebook post with a donate button? We do this with medical cases. Our marketing person does a sad write up and we post pics of the animal's poor condition and they typically do pretty well. We just did this for a dog this week and in 2 days have raised over $1200. Here's a link to that post: https://www.facebook.com/100064598927574/posts/pfbid0YKwWcPbsw68kmUn8ZpzFRy7jjfUy6UAPPE39A1hkj4pxgiDoEipRXueav1NB22VPl/

    Wow, that's awesome!

Unfortunately, our rescue is still very small and only has ~900 followers on Facebook.  When we've done Facebook fundraisers in the past, we're lucky to get $100.  We've also run across the issue with Facebook relinquishing the money in a timely manner.

It just seems we're missing the network/reach to get significant donations :(

Yeah for urgent $ needs, we avoid facebook buttons and use our donorbox links instead.  Raffles are tough because unless you have the permits required in most states, advertising them publicly might land you in trouble.    Do you have an email blast list of supporters or past adopters, volunteers, vendors?  It might be helpful to send out an email to everyone with a countdown... only 5 days left!  only 3 days left!  etc.

Good luck with your fundraiser and hopefully a successful amputation story !

Do you have or have you thought about starting an Instagram page? We reach a lot of people that way.

Do you have any local groups you can share or cross post your Facebook posts to?  Our shelter is in a pretty small area, but we have several FB groups dedicated to helping people learn and enjoy our area and, because we are non-profit, they are happy to allow us to share our posts to their pages. Some are moderated and some aren't, I personally appreciate the moderated pages because they stay on message. The unmoderated ones can go off the rails pretty quickly. Also, ask all your family and friends to follow your page, even if they don't live in your area, to get your follower count up.  Consider doing reels and stories, not just posts, because those go out to a wider audience (or so they say, I don't always trust FB pr 100% ;). Best of luck with your raffle!!

I agree with Instagram! I can't tell you how much I have donated to rescues all across the world from IG.

Another thing you can do on IG is an "auction" where people donate items and them ship them directly to the winning bidders.

I have done a few of these to help particular rescues.

Are shipping cost in addition to the winning bid price? Do you limit your shipping area?

It depends on the donor. Some folks will pay for shipping others will ask the winning bidder to pay.

Usually free shipping is limited to within the US and out of the US the winning bidder pays but again it is up to the donor.
