Hey Becky!
I think that idea is sooo cute! The free pizza would definitely incentivize me to volunteer for sure!
We are super lucky that we have more than enough volunteers on weekends to where we have a shift system so we don't overwhelm the staff with too many vols on property. What we learned, is to specifically recruit for folks who only have weekend availability. So, students, people who work a Monday-Friday job, etc. Ways we've done that is through social media recruiting campaigns, targeting high school twitter accounts (we allow 16+ ages to volunteer), and inviting corporate groups to come during the week to volunteer as a teambuilder, then chat with them that they can sign up as a volunteer on the weekends. It's been very successful in getting folks in the door.
I also highly encourage recognizing/rewarding current volunteers that recruit for us. Any volunteer that brings a new member onto the team, and they stay for X amount of time, gets a shoutout in our group email/newsletter for being the top "Friend Finder" for that prior month, quarter, etc.
Hope that helps and please let us know if you pursue that pizza idea, I would love to hear how it goes in return on investment!
