  • 1.  Chameleon Software Kennel Cards?

    Posted 16 days ago

Hi everyone! Does anyone using Chameleon have custom kennel cards or adoption portfolios that are designed for the public?

Our default kennel cards include intake information along with every medical and behavior note, which can be overwhelming and difficult for potential adopters to interpret. We're looking for a more adopter-friendly way to present information about our animals.

If your shelter has created custom kennel cards, portfolios, or other public-facing materials, we'd love to see what you're using. We'd really appreciate it if you'd be willing to share examples or ideas. Thanks in advance from Hayward Animal Services!

We currently use RescueGroups, but wanted to provide some input based on my experience (I've only been volunteering for a few months):

    1) Their Age - Everyone that visits always wants to know how old they are.

    2) A Photo, so they can tell which cat is which if we have multiple in a habitat/cage.

    3) More info if they want it (E.g. QR Code)

There was a recent post where an Adopt A Pet member shared this resource: https://adoptapetcom.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/23207113040027-Optimize-what-adopters-see-on-your-pet-listings

With that in mind, since we're in a PetSmart store ours adheres/follows their approved branding, but recently received approval to use some white space for a QR Code and image.  (Example Attached - Everything pulls from RG except for the arrival date and vaccine dates, but thats just point and click based on a custom page I created for our volunteers)

We've seen the same challenge come up quite a bit. The information your staff needs and the information a potential adopter needs are usually very different.

In PawPlacer, we approached this by making kennel cards fully customizable. You can choose exactly which fields are displayed (and which stay internal), so you're not forced to show intake details, medical notes, or behavior observations that aren't helpful to adopters. We also support QR codes on kennel cards, so visitors can scan to view a more detailed public profile with photos, personality information, adoption details, and anything else you decide to share.

Every organization has a different approach, so we wanted to make the layouts flexible rather than one-size-fits-all. Our platform is completely free if anyone wants to take a look or borrow ideas. We'd also love to hear how other shelters are designing their public-facing materials.

I set up an account today to evaluate the platform for our rescue operations, but I am having trouble finding where to customize the kennel cards. I didn't see anything covering this in the documentation.  Could you point me in the right direction?

Also, I'm curious about the revenue model. The site states the platform is entirely free, no data is sold, and there are no payment processing fees. From a sustainability standpoint, how does PawPlacers support itself?

Finally, if we decide to migrate our workflows over to your platform, is there a dedicated user group or forum where we can share feedback and feature suggestions based on our hands-on experience?

Hey Jeff, great to hear you set up an account, and happy to help. Kennel cards can be found at the top right of a pet's page by clicking the 3 dots. From there, you can select what kind of kennel card you'd like. I always recommend the health card as it is the most robust.

We're self-funded now, and we plan to offer insurance, food, and toys in the future. This will never be mandatory or pushed on people using the platform either.  We are committed to being free, forever.
Regarding migrating, we have a dedicated team that helps with this, and we are actually planning to build a forum for user feedback/suggestions. If you need help with anything, you can always email us at contact@pawplacer.com, or book time with our team here: https://cal.com/team/pawplacer/pawplacerdemo

We have name and animal number with altered or unaltered age range.Heartworm testing and vaccines

It also shows the day they came in and where they came from, stray owner, surrender, etc. And their weight.
