@Cindy Wilde shared a song that Kenny Chesney wrote in memory of a dog that recently passed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoH1S_R_a7w. Proceeds from song go to the dog's rescue, Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
"No one had a bigger, bolder heart than Da Ruba Girl, whose name was Ruby," Chesney said in a statement. "She was a rescue my friend Mary brought into our lives, and she was the most loving, gentle soul. It's why she inspired the song, and truly how she showed us better ways to be human."

- This is our last get-together for the year. We'll be taking a break until Monday, January 9, but there are lots of Community Conversations in our library for you to watch, as well as Candid Conversations. I'm really excited about the one coming up this Wednesday with Bobby Mann and Shakela Brown of Human Rescue Alliance! (registration link is in the chat below).
- Today we'll hear how folks from Operation Kindness and Dallas Animal Services faced a terrible canine influenza outbreak – and how they were able to be transparent, ask for help, get help, and successfully manage the health of the animals.
- On a personal note, the world feels very different. In March my world changed; my husband died. The loss and sadness with always be there, but what can help get me through is the connections that I have in my life. It's because of all of you, the work we do, that I feel like my world can still be expanded, in spite of the loss. There is purpose to go forward. I am most heartened by the new direction we are all embracing - that it's not just the animals but the people who are connected to them that we can embrace in ways that we haven't done before. I hope that we can think about out missions as we move forward in a world that is constantly changing. – Make ourselves not just better human beings but also make the world a better place. Dog Flu is Back, Too", many organizations (including shelters, private practice boarding and veterinary clinics) are currently facing outbreaks of Canine Influenza Virus (CIV). Operation Kindness and Dallas Animal Services recently worked closely with the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-M) on protocols and testing. On this call, hear from the leading expert in disease outbreak response, Dr. Sandra Newbury, Director of Shelter Medicine at UW-M, and these two shelters.

- Because H3N2 is a new pathogen most dogs don't have immunity to the virus. That's why it spreads so easily
- The vaccines available help to reduce shedding and length of clinical signs but often don't prevent infection - much like COVID vaccination
- H3N2 all ha a pretty short time frame from exposure to illness which is actually kind of helpful but make things go quickly
- Also infection of humans with H3N2 has not been shown to be a problem
- What was the turnaround time for them to have a negative PCR after the initial infection? - Ashley Rodriguez
- that depends, but we can see positive PCRs a few weeks after initial onset of clinical signs. Our program can help organizations figure out how to create a "clearance plan." - Sandra Newbury
