Animal Welfare Professionals

Does anyone know about any grants that are specifically for cats that focus on access to care? I am thinking something similar to the Grey Muzzle Foundation, but for cats, whether they are senior or not. We are looking for any grants that focus on cats of low-income pet owners. Thank you!

I don't know of a specific grant for cats, however I've been applying for a grants where I create my own programs. So maybe you could create your own program and pitch it to a local company offering grants. Here in Alabama we had a bank accepting grant applications, as well as a foundation started to improve the lives of community members, so I pitched a low cost spay/neuter program for low income households. Maybe you could do something like this?

At Mandarin's Retreat we have taken advantage of every free webinar on grants and grant writing we can find. Candid is a great place to start and if you receive a Gold seal of transparency, Candid gives you access to their Foundation database of Grantors. Instrumentl also give classes and offers two weeks free use of their software. We used the software to identify about 30 possible grants for cats/animals and began submitting applications. As mentioned before, our two grant awards ($2,000 & $1,500) came from our local community foundation pool of grants. Searching for the right fit in grants is not easy but stick to it.

There are a variety of approaches here:

Mission Meow

Banfield Foundation helps with access to care

Petco Love has Vaccine grants periodically

At the MRFRS we have gotten significant funding from local community foundations to support s/n of owned cats in a target area which works very well.

Community Cats Grants which is for TNR cats(still is in the realm of access to care for the community). 

Grants 4 Animals is a great resource.  Grant Gopher is another resource.

If you want to spend some time researching just google:  Grants for Cat spay/neuter

There other organizations that fund strategically and depending on your location- link Joanie Bernard Foundation funds in OH, KY, IN but in a limited scope. 

Leadership Donors are a great resources and donor advised funds.  Fundraising TV and Sandy Rees and team are helpful in this area.

Look into your local animal welfare organizations or community foundations, sometimes, they offer small grants or special project funding that isn't widely advertised. Also, veterinary schools sometimes have community outreach programs or grant partnerships that focus on increasing access to care for underserved pet populations, including cats.

Another option is to connect with regional or state-level humane federations, which often have lists of available grants and funding opportunities for member organizations.
