As the volunteer supply lead one, of our goals for 2025 is to create a more efficient process for getting what we need donated. Our short term goal is to manage and organize our supply storage unit. We currently have an issue where we get items donated that we don't need and we have yet to find a solution for what to do with these or how to limit it.

    Hi Erin,

We run into the same problem.  We've posted what we can and cannot use on our website, and have our large donation bin in front with signs on it that say "Please do not put xyz into the donation bin. Here is a list of what we need...

When we get in things that we don't need, but someone might, we place it on a shelf for staff to take if they need. We also have a freebie box in the front of the Shelter that adopters can take.

Lastly, we have Amazon Wishlist's on our website, so people can look at exact items if they would like to purchase something for the Shelter, but aren't sure what to buy.

When my rescue gets items we can't use, we reach out to our local animal control, other rescues, or the local pet food pantry. For instance, many of our extra blankets/towels go to animal control because their dog kennels are all outdoors

The Summit County Pet Food Pantry in Colorado stays committed to animal welfare and preserving pets as part of the families by partnering with local food pantries to provide pet food for pets and families in need. In 2025 we plan to increase our visibility in our community, increase our pet food quantities, create and take part in more fund raising events, expand our abilities to supply pet food to Smart Bellies, our community's mobile food delivery to families in need, and  recruit more volunteers to support our efforts.

We'd like to continue to step up our TNR and community spay/neuter efforts. We tackled several hoarding situations in 2024, and covered the costs of sterilization. We tried for several spay/neuter grants and unfortunately, only received one small one that didn't go very far. We may dedicate one of our bigger fundraisers exclusively to TNR/spay-neuter.

As in most rural areas, the overpopulation of dogs and cats is an ongoing battle.  With limited availability to resources and veterinarians, pet owners with low to moderate incomes, and shelters and rescues that are overwhelmed and overcrowded, our continued goal is to assist with funding and collaborate with rescues and veterinarians to provide timely and affordable spay and neuter services.  Through state funded grant programs, our organization can received upwards of $10,000 a year to help, but on average this amount of funding may only assist 50 to 100 animals in a year.  Our goal in 2025 is to meet with local city and county governments to seek funding assistance to match these grant funds.  Implementing a government funded program for low income families and colony caretakers to relieve the burden of cost associated with spay and neuter.  In doing so, we can help reduce the overcrowding at our local shelter (which does not have a spay/neuter program or on staff vet), we can mitigate the "free to good home" crisis on social media, and prevent the abandonment of dogs and cats at the local dairies, farms, and deserts.

I'm starting the year by moving into a new role at my shelter; I was previously our Community Engagement Coordinator and started in December as our Operations Director. One of my big goals for 2025 is to improve staff retention by focusing on improved SOPs and staff training for current roles, adding Continuous Education and Training opportunities, and hopefully working on communication to catch staff concerns before they become ongoing problems that lead to resignations. I'm sure there is more we can do towards this goal, but I'm definitely still in the early stages of learning what the team needs!

Our organization's primary goal for 2025 is to significantly enhance our community outreach and engagement programs, specifically focusing on preventative measures to reduce animal abandonment and neglect.
We aim to achieve this by establishing a mobile veterinary clinic that can travel to underserved areas, offering low-cost spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and essential pet care education. This initiative will not only directly address the root causes of animal overpopulation and suffering but also foster a more responsible pet ownership culture within the community.

We believe that proactive prevention is paramount in achieving sustainable improvements in animal welfare, and the mobile clinic will serve as a crucial tool in reaching populations that currently lack access to these vital services.

This investment will result in a measurable reduction in shelter intake and create a healthier, safer environment for both animals and the communities we serve.

This year my goal is to spend the time necessary to follow up with those foster applicants who don't complete the onboarding process.  This is a pool of people who were motivated enough to become a volunteer and fill out a foster application, but somewhere along the way stopped communicating with my team.  Whether their life circumstances changed or they decided to adopt a dog instead of fostering, they need follow-up and as the volunteer team manager, I want to make this a priority!

Hi, my name is Sonia Love, and I am the owner of Perfectpaws LLC, a small, family-owned for-profit business that has become a cherished community hub for exceptional dog grooming and self-serve dog wash services. At Perfectpaws, our mission is to create a warm, stress-free environment where pets and their owners feel valued, cared for, and part of our family.

As we look ahead to 2025, one of my primary goals is to groom at least 30 shelter dogs annually. Offering free grooming services to local shelter dogs is a cause close to my heart. I've seen firsthand how a simple grooming session can completely transform a dog's appearance and dramatically improve their chances of being adopted. Shelter dogs often arrive frightened and disheveled, but with proper grooming, their true personalities can shine through-making them more appealing to potential adopters.

I am deeply passionate about this initiative because every dog deserves a second chance at love and a forever home. Sometimes, all it takes is a clean coat and a little care to change how they're perceived and give them the dignity and comfort they deserve. Grooming these dogs is my way of giving back, knowing that each groomed dog has a greater chance of finding a family to call their own.

For me, this is about so much more than grooming. It's about changing lives-both the lives of the dogs and the families who welcome them into their homes. Dogs have an extraordinary capacity to love, and it's heartbreaking to think that something as simple as their appearance could stand in the way of finding a forever family.
Using my skills to give these shelter dogs a better chance at happiness is not only my passion but also my purpose. It fills me with immense joy to know that I can help create opportunities for these animals to thrive, heal, and bring joy to others.

I am new to this platform and wanted to share a little information about me as well.

Love this! As someone in the rescue side -  It means the world to the rescue as its funds that can be put towards other expenses and also makes the pup so much more adoptable.
We have had a few people that offered to groom some of our pups that were in rough shape. Our latest was little Hiccup. A Yorkie found on the side of the road with maggot infested wounds. The vet had to shave him to get rid of the maggots and to amputate his leg. When the hair started coming in - he looked like he had mange lol. Patchy! A donated spa day was perfect!

We have a gentleman that is donating a piece of property to the rescue. The board has voted and we decided to build a veterinary hospital with an in house lab, an adoption center with a cat lounge, and a fully enclosed sanctuary for feral cats on the property. The vet hospital will be a walk in clinic and an ER so that the rescue animals and the community can get care when they need it. The other vets in this town are booked 3 weeks out, some don't take on new clients, and the closest ER is over an hour away. I think this will definitely help a lot of animals, and raise funds to support the rescue animals. If anyone wants to donate towards the build of the clinic SDLCR.org is our website and we would love some support! We also are currently working on getting businesses to donate food so we can open a pet pantry as well.

We are going to be more data-driven this year! We are creating new data collection formats to collect more and better data to assess and improve our programs. This will also help with applying for grants and focusing our efforts where they are most needed. Our Foster program is also working with our Medical team to create new protocols for kitten foster homes that will keep kittens healthier and out of the shelter environment as much as possible.

    Posted 01-02-2025 12:07 PM

To learn about our 2025 goal you must first learn about 2024.

2024 was our first year of existence.  We are a pet food pantry and a reduced price spay/neuter program (in partnership with a local vet -- we are not a clinic.)  Our mission is to provide this help to seniors, veterans, the disabled and others having financial problems to ensure pets stay in their homes and out of the animal shelters. Our non-profit was the brainchild of two women who met each other while volunteering in the community.  One envisioned a Free Pet Food Pantry (Me!).  The other envisioned Free Spay/Neuter Services.   We discussed the idea in November 2023. Filled out all the legal paperwork in December 2023 and on January 5, 2024 were granted our incorporation and our 501(c)3 status.  It all happened much more quickly than anticipated.  (We both hold full-time jobs and were/are doing this in our "free" time.)  Our charity started in January and we held our first event called the "Love for Pawz Community-Wide Pet Food Donation Drive" the entire month of February.  We reached out to the community asking for businesses who would be interested in serving as drop off locations for pet food donations.  We only expected one or two but were elated to have 11 sites across our county agree to participate.  (We are a small county of 22,000 people with 4 towns.  The smallest of these cities has a population of 750 and the largest a population of 7,000.  Most everyone else lives on farmland.)  The 11 sites were across all cities -- a major accomplishment.  We had fantastic results with 1100 pounds of food collected.

OUR GOAL FOR 2025 -- We have decided to hold this event annually and have set a goal of 20 sites and collection of 3K pounds of food this year!  As of 1/2/25, we already have 11 sites signed up and we have several more inquiries out.  We set up a page on our website to give the businesses some additional exposure for the goodwill they are providing.

    Website: https://spayedandaid.org/love-for-pawz

    Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18ShvVTpVq/

We do not yet have a building that we have clients come to. Instead we hold a mobile distribution once a month and I'm ELATED to announce that in 2024 we fed 3,087 animals in our county!  I don't think that one year ago, sitting in our kitchens talking on the phone and discussing the new charity, we could have ever imagined the success of this endeavor.  It's clear the need is/was there and we are so happy to be seeing our dream become a reality while helping so many people and pets in need.

And we are aiming to add two team building activities with our kitten fosters that will help create a stronger relationship with them while also making kitten toys/beds for our litters this year. Continuing to explore working with seniors in our community and see how we can build that bridge. Lastly, we will continue to build with our community & coalition partners. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE G&Cs  our rescue's goal this is year is to fine tune our foster program, in 2024 our foster program opened up to shelters outside of our county in areas where kill rates are painfully high. We are proud to say that Sonoma County is a non kill County however there is much work to get the state of California to being a no Kill state, so we decided to expand our foster program to outside counties, we have had a great start with our newest shelter partners in both Mendocino County and Stanislaus County taking in three dogs from Mendocino County and successfully finding them homes, as well as 18 dogs from Stanislaus County including two mamas with their pups and even a dad we have been blessed to find them amazing foster homes most being in Sonoma County, 3 in Fairfield, 2 in Eureka,3 in Lodi and 2 in Napa County. our goal for 2025 is to continue expanding out network which will allow us to expand our lifesaving efforts as we work with shelters across California to bring our state to nokill status.

thank you all for all you do every day for all the lives you save and fight for!

Purrfect Match Cat Rescue is celebrating its 23rd year in 2025!  In 2024 we rescued and found a permanent home for our 5,000th cat since 2015!  In 2025 our strategic plan calls for us to begin purposely building a "reserve fund" to help us through the times when cash donations are slow.   Our goal is $100K by the end of 2026.   We are also focusing on strengthening our ten foster homes with more supplies and support and continuing to build relationships with partners in the Northeast where we have been transporting our rescues since 2015.   In the past couple of years we've built a strong grants program and will continue to identify and apply for grants of all sizes both locally and nationally.

    Goals for 2025

We are currently working on having a piece of land rezoned to build a Spay and Neuter Clinic at a low cost or no cost.  We are also planning on having Home like Dog Houses placed on the property to help families going into rehab or other programs so they can keep their pets instead of giving them up.  This will keep more animals out of rescues and shelters so they can stay with their families. Helping people and pets stay together, one paw at a time.

This property will also include a Pet Food Pantry to help families keep their pets and not worry if they can feed them.  We are also asking businesses to sponsor dogs while in foster care.  That business will have their logo on the website and the dog/kennel they have sponsored.

2024 was the first full year of the Foundation. 31 adoptions for the year. 60 spay and neuter surgeries.

Adding an educational programam to our sanctuary has always been a dream of ours since founding our nonprofit. We are excited for 2025 and finally starting our two educational programs. In 2022 we were in the process of opening our farm and exotic animal sanctuary to offer private educational tours, when Hurricane Ian hit leaving us with substantial damage that we are still working on repairing. Between the cost of replacing the 6 acre perimeter fence, we lost 90% of the fence, and USDA regulations requiring the fence, we decided to put the program on hold. As time went on we decided to pivot and look at a different way to offer our educational program. We considered offering small monthly hands on classes at the sanctuary and to raise funds to purchase a bus to transport animals to events and schools. Last year we were blessed with an endowment from one of our supporters who passed away. She was specific that the funds had to be used for our "dream" projects, and unfortunately not for the fence. We were able to purchase a shuttle bus for our Critter Connection animal outreach program and to convert an existing building, that was basically used for storage,  into a dedicated room for small birds,  a room for our reptiles and one to host classes. We  started construction on the building and converting the bus, removing the seats and installing cages for some of our animal ambassadors to safely travel to schools and events. Once again we encountered delays due to having to take funds and time to work on damage from  Hurricane Debby flooding and then Hurricane Milton. Milton destroyed a lot of the fence that we had recently replaced from Ian along with damaging roofs on our small animal house, aviary and feed shed.  As stressful as living through these disasters was we knew we were very lucky that not one of the sanctuary animals died or sustained any serious injuries and that the main barn and house received only minimal damage. This made us even more determined to get our program up and running. We are proud to say that our Critter Connection animal outreach bus will be on the road and our Hands, Hooves and Paws hands-on classes will start in March!

My goal for our shelter for the year is to, hopefully, make it a bit less stressful for the shelter staff that we currently have. We've had a hard time keeping employees long term for around a year now, so the staff that has remained is being stretched incredibly thin. I hope to build better connections with the community by scheduling helpful and fun events, do more with social media and such to get as many precious babes out of their as we can, and just hopefully do better to help the staff get back to enjoying their jobs at least a little bit more.

We are located in New Jersey but bring dogs from South Texas.

As it doesn't end, the puppies in the streets, abused animals, and distant areas for animals dump, we started talks with the few we work with in TX and try to come up with ideas to push for laws to stop the abuse, trying to find ways to have few times a month a low-cost spay and neuter clinic, ways to get grants to open a suitable facility as a no-kill shelter and so on

It's only in the planning stage. It will take a few years if we manage to bring more locals to work with us.

In the meantime, we'll continue our work trying to save as many as possible, which is not enough at all.

I hope the above won't become just a nice dream but turn into reality

2025 is starting off as rough as 2024 ended; our primary goals:

    1)  Hire a shelter manager;

    2) Keep our shelter's head above water while searching for a Shelter Manager.

In 2024 we had a number of key people leave due to personal reasons, the straw that broke the camel's back was our President just passed away from a serious health condition, she was 50 years old.  We have volunteers  (and some part-time paid employees) in place for the day to day maintenance of the shelter, an individual that heads up our quarterly newsletter (a large fundraiser for us), and two-three people that handle adoption services but we are lacking a shelter manager who can oversee the cats that come into the shelter, placement, medical services etc.  We have one individual that works a full time job and is doing her best to fill in but it gets over whelming quickly.    We are pretty lucky as to funding's as we are better off than other small/medium rescues/shelters in the area but without that rudder/manager our ability to take on more cats in need suffers.

    Hello Maddie's Fund Community,

We're Tracy Dog Girls Rescue, a new nonprofit organization in Tracy, California, and we're excited to share our main goal for 2025: Strengthening our community's support system for dogs in need.

This year, we're focused on building strong partnerships with local businesses, volunteers, and government officials to help address the challenges facing our local shelter. With the shelter at capacity and no longer able to take in new dogs, we are working hard to:

    • Promote adoptions and fundraise for spay/neuter programs through collaborations with local businesses.
    • Provide much-needed volunteer dog walking and foster homes for shelter dogs to ease overcrowding.
    • Collaborate with local officials to find long-term solutions to the shelter's overcrowding and help prevent more dogs from ending up on the streets.

By strengthening the network of support around our shelter and rescue community, we hope to create lasting change and give every dog the chance to find a safe, loving home.

    2025 Goals for our shelter~

    • Matching even more pets with their forever homes. Our rural shelter placed almost 700 animals in 2024
    • Establishing a dog foster program, including enrichment opportunities like day trips. This will include hiring a new staff member.
    • Expanding spay/neuter services to at least three days a week for our community and rescue partners. We want to double the 1500 surgeries performed last year.

We're excited about these initiatives' impact and welcome any advice or insights from others who've tackled similar goals!

The National Dog Park Association officially gets launched January 2025. The NDPA aims to inspire our supporters to take on a Director at Large role. This smaller-scale position allows them to address dog friendly local needs for spaces and parks. Enhancing their current employment roles and showcasing their leadership skills while helping their city to attract economic development around a pet supportive community. The NDPA hopes to unite animal welfare advocates who want such a city to collaborate and create positive changes in communities nationwide.

Additionally, the National Dog Park Association is introducing a national certification for dog parks and spaces. Many dog park recommendations and rules vary widely, but the NDPA Certification focuses on three essential areas: safety, sanitation, and maintenance. We believe these are the requirements for any dog park or space and this certification serves as recognition of the management's commitment to providing a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.

The National Dog Park Association invites industry professionals to join our advisory board to help shape our future. We welcome suggestions on how this organization can better serve all pet owners. We believe 2025 hold lots of promise.

    Goals (and some aspirations….)

We had a rough year (2024) – we made it through and are picking up the pieces and happily moving forward!

    1. Benefit as many cats and kittens as possible.  (will be quantified).
    2. Recruit enough volunteers to be secure in back up and care for our feline family.
    3. Maximize awareness, education, and efficiency.  (launching an outreach campaign)
    4. Produce measurable results.
    5. Promote positive change and group collaboration.
    6. Work toward support from other sources, through events, collaboration, and grants and leverage all options.

HI Jean, I am the community outreach volunteer for Friends of Coos County Animals (FOCCAS) in Coos Bay, Oregon. My primary goal in 2025 is to increase our partnerships with other rescues in the state of Oregon. We have several locally and we work together when we need to, but I would like to see something more defined. As an example we are a foster based rescue, therefore have limitations on how many animals we can take, another rescue about 50 miles away has a nice facility and a "cat room" they contacted us saying they were out of "adult cats" and we immediately found several needing rehomed. This type of sharing is a must for us in the rural areas, and I hope to facilitate this in 2025. So... if you are from Oregon and on this list please contact me.. Thank you!

I foster for my rescue, and this year I have a goal of raising funds to build a converted shed in our backyard to house large breed mom and her puppies. It's a 28' x 10' area that will allow me to foster larger breed pups, and provide more balance managing my own resident dogs and the many foster dogs we bring in.  It'll also provide our rescue with a landing place for any dogs that find themselves in a housing pickle.

Thank you for the opportunity to win a $3,000 grant and be inspired by reading other organizations goals.

We have many goals for 2025 but since you asked for just one I will say grow our Dental Suite.  We launched a low cost dental program for financially challenged pet owners that are referred by their veterinarian if they cannot afford the industry standard costs of dental procedures for their beloved cats or small dogs.

The program has been a challenge to get off the ground, we do not want to step on the toes of local veterinarians by offering the option directly to the community but developing veterinarian referral relationships is bit more difficult than anticipated.

2024 was a stressful year for multiple reasons.  As we start the planning process for 2025, it is overwhelming to think about the amount of work that needs to be done in our county.   A few areas we can improve include:

Increasing our presence - social media and in-person.  We have a marketing plan (thanks to Maddie's University).  We can start our Human Education Program (thanks to Maddie's).

Our building needs upgrades, such as repairing walls and adding new kennels or gates. We will need financial support for this project.

We are working on a plan to reestablish our pet food pantry. This service was impacted when the organization we partnered with could no longer provide low-cost food.

Most importantly, manage the stress of working in animal rescue. We have some projects to help our staff and board manage their stress.

Our 2025 goal is to find a replacement for me, our organization's president!  I have done the job for 5 years, and in 2023 I moved halfway across the country. Since our organization's focus is one county in Texas (Bastrop), I and the other Board members feel strongly that the Board members/managers should be local.  I would also like to be able to engage further with humane organizations in my new location, but all my charity work time goes to the one in Texas. We have been trying for 2 years to engage volunteers who might want to serve in my role, with no luck.  For some reason no one wants an unpaid job with a lot of responsibility :). So if there are any motivated volunteers out there in Central Texas who have leadership skills, please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you!

In 2025, PAWS is looking for a better way to help the military community, which make up more than half of our county's population since we are located right in between two large Air Force bases. We struggle with finding ways to help military families who have to move with short notice and don't know what to do with their pets, or decide to relinquish them. We would also like to better assist veterans and create a program to help with deployments, similar to DOD.

I'm a vet that does a lot of work with several local shelters and I'd like to set up a dental cleaning/extraction room in one of them that is accessible to all of them.  So many pets need one degree or another of dental care and I've no doubt that the cost of providing that is scaring off potential adoptive families.

I would take any help I can get, registered or not.  Really, you only need someone to help sedate the animal and possibly intubate.  After that, one person can handle just about anything other than really involved oral surgery.  It would be nice to have someone sit with patients while they recover, but interested volunteers are more than qualified to do that.

The Kitten Connection is a small charity in Portugal. This is very timely as we develop our 2025 workplan goals!

    1. Double TNR numbers.
    2. Formally launch a low-cost S/N programme. We already offer free S/N for cats in a trial target community programme; add low-cost options across the wider area.
    3. Adoptions: >99% of last year's intake were adopted! Roll out the lessons learned from this to other small charities in central Portugal who have asked us for help.
    4. Fundraising:  identify  grants to further develop our services [this is VERY hard for us as we're in a country with few grant options]
    5. Education: continue to develop community programme on sterilisation and have additional community meetings across our area.
    6. Communications: increase offline marketing items and work to develop social media reach.
    7. Find a location for a permanent shelter/sanctuary.

For the amazing nonprofit I work for (Faunalytics), our fearless leader wrote a blog detailing our plans and goals for this year - I'm personally most excited for our "Effective Communication With Political Staffers" study which should come out this summer!

For the fabulous animal shelter I am on the board of, (Animal Friends Alliance) my main goal is to foster 8 litters of cats/kittens and start fostering dogs again as well. I am also going to become their board president this year! So I guess I have a goal of being a good president for them.

And for me personally, my goal is to take one day away from work each month and make it my personal holiday. Sleeping in, hiking with my dog, reading for fun with my cat in my lap, building Lego sets... whatever feels right! Self care is so necessary to stay active and engaged in animal advocacy and I plan to be around a long time. :)

    I hope everyone has a wonderful 2025!

Agree!!! I have had 2 sets of puppies dumped after hours at the shelter in one month. Our camera's are awful especially at night and pick up nothing of use. We are a staff of 2 and overwhelmed with everything! 3 week old puppies were not on our to do list. Rescue picked them up quickly, but my frustration with the events, I posted on our fb page. It came with mixed reviews of course, but I think it's time my community wakes up to what happens with these animals.

Increase the number of available foster homes.

Increase the number of pets adopted into loving homes.

Ramp up the Humane Education program - speaking to youth groups about responsible pet ownership & rescue.

We've got a lot of big aspirations for 2025! Some of those include

    1. Starting a pet food pantry. We had an increased amount of malnourished dogs found abandoned in 2024, and a lot of surrender requests that cited "not able to afford" as the reason they had to give up their beloved pets. So our goal is to start a pantry in order to keep families together, and prevent them having to make some extremely difficult decisions.

    2. We are starting up a "Business Buddies" program, where local businesses can pay a small fee to have us bring puppies or kittens to their events, or to their offices.

    3. We recently expanded our fundraising committee, and have big hopes for our events this year. We were in a thigh spot a couple of months ago, where we weren't sure we were going to have enough money to keep the lights on the following month. We don't want to be back in that position again.

This year, we have a few goals we're hoping to accomplish:

    • Create a courtesy posting program to help members of our community find loving homes for pets needing to be rehomed
    • Host a low-cost or free spay/neuter program for owned pets within our community
    • Repair our dog run fencing so that dogs in our care will be more secure (cannot escape!) and safe while enjoying some time outside!!
    • Create a TNR program for community cats so they don't have to spend any time in the shelter environment.

    Happy New Year everyone!!

One of our goals for 2025 is the purchase of a larger facility which includes a surgical suite so that we can provide in house spay/neuter for our rescue pets and unowned community cats. The surgical suite would be staffed by volunteer veterinarians and veterinary technicians who will work alongside veterinary students to strengthen their skills and continuing education while contributing to our humane population control efforts - and saving lives! -Megan Scoullar with the ASTRO Foundation in Oakdale, CA.

Our goal would be a building of our own where we could house cats & dogs and with more than four kennels.  We need room for isolation ( we had 3 Parvo puppies this summer)

We currently share a 4 kennel building with no isolation options and nothing for cats. Like everyone we're overrun with requests for help.  As foster based rescue its difficult.  We either start building or just become a transfer rescue.

-Find more grants and funding for TNR

    -Get a transport van

-Find a small place to house the cats before and after surgery and has enough room to store our equipment

-Find rescues to work with for when we come across nice strays and kittens that shouldn't be released back out

In 2025, our organization is committed to launching a comprehensive TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program to tackle the longstanding issue of feral and stray cat overpopulation in our community-a problem that has not been addressed before. By collaborating with a local veterinary clinic, rescue organizations, and a nearby vocational-technical school with a vet tech program, we are taking proactive steps to create meaningful change.

We are currently working with these partners to organize a mass "Tom Cat Day," where a large number of male cats will be neutered to help reduce the population and mitigate nuisance behaviors. If this initiative proves successful, we plan to make it a recurring event and expand it to include spaying queens (female cats) as well. Our ultimate goal is to stabilize feral cat colonies, reduce complaints, and improve the lives of community cats in a humane and sustainable way.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter for animal welfare in our community, and we are excited to build a more compassionate and accountable environment for both animals and people.

I run a TNVR program in a small town and our goal for 2025 is to have 0 feline euthanasias at our local shelter.  Our shelter only begins euthanizing if the cat room becomes over crowded, and we're going to make sure that doesn't happen. We'll take the unsocialized cats and provide them to farmers/ranchers as barn cats. We'll immediately take the most adoptable cats to foster and put a big effort into finding them permanent homes.

I have so many goals for the rescue this year. As our rescue's Cat Coordinator, my largest priority is making videos and improving documentation explaining our adoption process (the actual steps and process) for volunteers who will be sharing some of this work with me moving forward. This is a huge deal since spreading out that load will allow me to do other needed things. It will also allow me to take vacations without worrying about adoptions being slowed down! Work life balance in rescue is so difficult and I am excited to have a team rather than one person doing this work. It also makes our group more sustainable, since I will know others can step in if I am ever not around.

I manage 25 cats in an alley and have found 30 other outdoor kitties within just a few blocks from my house. We're also working on other TNR management features, which we'll be releasing this spring.

The app is a free download with an option to upgrade to a premium version. I can make you a rescue referral code and if anyone signs up using your code, we'll donate 25% of the recurring revenue to you each month. I wanted to give rescues a chance for equity in the program while helping to identify and count cats in their community. Let's chat further! whiskertrackers@gmail.com

    Hello,

Stabilize and Improve Dog Enrichment Training Program: Focus on enhancing the training program for dogs, particularly medium to large breeds that tend to have longer stays, as we do not anticipate a decrease in dog intake.  Hire a Dog Enrichment Specialist or canine companion coordinator: Recruit an individual to work one-on-one with dogs, create playgroups, and utilize the calm canine rooms to enhance their socialization and training. We have tried for over six grants and were declined for all the grants, but we know this need is significant to the never-ending dog population, and the length of stay has become longer over the past few years, we will try for another grant.

A goal that I've set for my team is to focus on intake diversion. We aim to reduce animal intake for stray and owned pets by 15% this year. This will be done through more community outreach and education.

Just a few ways we aim to achieve this goal:

    • Update county website with detailed information on 1) lost and found services and 2) local/state/national resources for pet owners.
    • Install microchip scanning stations throughout the county so found animals can be returned by the finder in-field.
    • Implement a pet pantry to assist owners with the cost of pet food and supplies.

We are a relatively new rescue (4 months old) that just two of us started after being dissatisfied with a large rescue in our area for various reasons. Our 2025 goal is to recruit fosters. Our local county facilty is huge for our small community and has lots of fosters (but still they are triple capacity), and there is another large rescue that has lots of fosters, so we are looking for creative ways to recruit foster homes so we can a) keep animals out of our overburdened county facility and b) pull from our county facility. We will remain foster based so this is a crucial part of us being successful. Any creative ideas to recruit are appreciated!!!

I have two goals for this year, although one is in progress and will hopefully be happening soon! I share about rescue/fostering with my coworkers regularly and they often ask how it's going! I'm hoping to convince at least once coworker to become a regular foster this year! I have one coworker who is fostering (for the first time!) a cat I picked up recently and I'm hoping he enjoys the experience and wants to foster more! My other goal is to become TNR certified. I've trapped and fostered many cats on my own over the years, and some with rescue groups from various locations. But becoming TNR certified will expand my knowledge and help me help more cats!

Our 2025 goal is to step up our game from an outreach and resource perspective to increase our impact. We are a very small rescue established in 2007, and have been proud to serve our community consistently and help many animals find their furever homes. We partner with the local shelter to take animals into care, and alleviate the overcrowding. We want to help out even more than we are- so we are excited to use the Maddie's Pet Forum to learn more ways to fundraise and engage with more fosters/ adopters to support our mission!

I was sure I posted our goal, but it's nowhere to be found. So here it is again.

We are a small rescue in New Jersey that brings dumped, abused, hurt, unwanted, on-kill-list dogs from South Texas.

Over the years, we learned that the horrific situation is part because there are no laws, and if there's one, there's no one to enforce it. There's no shelter, education, or low-cost help with vaccination and spay/ neuter.

Our goal is to work with the people over there who care to convince the town managers of the need for all the above and work together to get community support, find grants for a no-kill shelter, contact vets a few times a month, and start a school program and kids volunteer with animals.

I know it's a huge goal, and it's not reachable in a year, but still, I hope it won't end up as only a dream.

At the tail end of 2024, I had a medical event gave me amnesia of all things. I'm slowly recovering, but my volunteer team had to jump in and get up to speed quickly. So. Our goal for 2025 is to have a detailed handbook created so that volunteers are able to see rescue procedures. We're also going to create more volunteer roles for bite-sized tasks so that no one person is doing most everything. 2025 is my year I feel like. :)

Our city/county shelter is remodeling and renovating to provide improved care to the animals, and a warm, welcoming lobby for our future pet owners. We are fortunate to have the city and county providing the majority of funding for the project, but we still need to raise $1 million by the end of 2025 to fully fund the building. That, simply put, is my goal and sole focus for the year.

My organization - 10 Lives Rescue NY Inc became a registered  501c3 at the end of last year! This was a huge hurdle for us and we are so excited for how this allows us to further our mission for 2025. Our goals for 2025 are to increase our Patreon subscribers and thus increase the quality, amount, and type of content we are producing there. We are getting very creative and writing entries from the cats and are beginning to work on our Valentine's Day card from the cats fundraiser!

We also have the goal of getting some of our long term cats (including one of my own fosters, Nova) adopted! We want to see cats who are coming up on one year (or longer) in foster being placed in their forever homes.

We have also identified the big year goal of opening up a pet food pantry, and to do so we need to get a storage unit, as our current small NYC apartments just aren't going to work for this! We are so excited for our continued growth!

Hello! My goal for 2025 is to help my local cat rescue with fundraising. It's all run by one generous and incredible owner who takes on taking care of everything herself, with very little funding or resources.  She went from one community member trapping cats to spay them to now having a brick and mortar cat rescue where the local community has now come to rely on to bring strays, neglected animals, and pregnant moms. I want so desperately to become proficient at grant writing, website design, and other jobs so I can volunteer my spare time to help her save more cats.

    Onward 2025!

    Hey Enger!

Becoming a 501c3 is a big part of it as it opens the doors for grants and for donation matching from friends and volunteers who work for big corporations.  But the goal breaks down to $12,500 a month, so we seek to get 1250 new subscribers this year on patreon at $10/month, commitments for donations that will be bolstered by donation matching at various levels, and $1000 a month in adoption revenue (roughly 7 adoptions per month on average.) What have you found to be some of the challenges?

I would like to see a reasonable solution to Kansas law  47-624 which causes the euthanasia of healthy FeLV+ cats in Kansas just because they test positive for a virus. Under this law, Kansans can be fined $1000/da for having an FeLV+ cat. Rescues and shelters in Kansas can't adopt out FeLV+ cats, nor can they transport them. They get euthanized. The Department of Agriculture oversees shelters and rescues in Kansas.  Last spring after an outbreak of parvo in puppies, the Dept. of Ag, directed that no infectious animal could go to foster care.  That means no parvo puppies or kittens with URIs.  With no foster care available for these companion animals to be treated for common infections, thousands of otherwise healthy pets would be euthanized.  The backlash was huge and immediate.  The Dept. of Ag then decided to review the policies and directed a team to provide guidance.  That guidance is K.A.R. 9-18-23.  This guidance would stop killing asymptomatic FeLV+ cats.  It's so full of bureaucracy, regulations, interventions, and paperwork that place such a financial burden on rescues and shelters that they can't afford it.  This is NOT the solution.  A solution is badly needed!! We know that spaying and neutering cats substantially reduces the spread of FeLV.  We also know that regressively infected FeLV+ cats can live a normal life span and they aren't contagious to other cats or anything else.  KS 47-624 addresses infectious animals and is meant to protect the residents of Kansas from contaminated food sources and to protect a herd of animals from being infected by a diseased animal. Nowhere should cats and dogs be considered a food source in Kansas.  My goal for 2025 is to see FeLV+ cats and all dogs and cats removed from this law.

I am a freelance grant writer for several small animal welfare organizations. My goal for 2025 is to ensure these small but mighty rescues have the resources, especially financial, to meet their goals and support animals in need across the country. Smaller organizations do a lot of the heavy lifting but can be overlooked by funders. So we focus not only on grants but also on establishing partnerships and alternate funding sources to meet their needs.

In our first 6 months, we spayed and neutered 143 street cats from the Metro Milwaukee area. In 2025, we'd like to spay and neuter 250 cats and kittens, and train municipal shelters in surrounding areas on trapping techniques to help them maximize their veterinary resources and reduce feral cat populations in their jurisdictions.

This year West Feliciana Animal Humane Society (WFAHS) has three goals that are vital to your continued operation.

    1. Develop new volunteers to address the care and needs of all the animals in our care.  Normally, we have 50 dogs and 50 cats and for the last 8 months we have exceeded  200 animals a month. Our volunteer bases has been small and many are working full time jobs and can't provide more support at this time
    2. Adoption, Adoption, and more Adoption Events to allow the public meet the animals without all the chaos we have at the shelter.  We do not have a room, or area for potential adopters to get familiar with out animals.
    3. Fundraisers and Grants!!!  Fundraisers are being setup each month for focused needs, like Amazon Wishlist, Medical needs for individual animals, calendar events like Valentines, St. Patrick Days, Honor Rainbow Bridge members, etc.

Better strategic planning right out of the gate is helping make our goals and how to achieve them much more defined, which, in-turn, makes me feel so much more optimistic that we can tackle them! A few goals are improving engagement throughout all aspects – donors, team and board, and partners – along with increasing our donor retention, stepping up on creating and solidifying corporate partnerships, and strategically adding to our recurring donors.

I just ended up tipping the people in the airport with my left over money..

    Dear Carma,

Thank you so much for your post! I can't believe you were just in Saint Lucia! I hope you had a super nice vacation. :)

    If we had only known....

Would you consider being a foster and / or would you consider receiving dogs for us? We could use someone in Oregon should we ever get flights out that way. We can ask for flight porters if you are willing to foster! We are desperate for any help. We have over 200 in the shelter and have to trun away so many others.

Regarding hotel and/or airport change bucket, the hotels won't let us. There is zero assistance and zero cooperation. The Lucian's don't believe animals should take up a second of our thoughts or resources other than the ones I list below.

If you can post on the hotel Facebook page to share awareness and ask people to be a flight escort would be an incredible help!  Our website has an amazon Wishlist and donation page to sponsor strays etc. Voicing your concern to the hotel and urge them to do the donation box might just work! Could you do that?

StolenTime Rendezvous donates accommodations for visiting vets.

Windjammer allows us to bring puppies and kittens every Tuesday for the manager's cocktail hour.

Coconut Bay is a huge supporter, and they have a "rescue zoo". The caveat with Coconut Bay is the distance. It's so close to the airport that it's hard to get folks shuttled north to the shelter. They also don't have half as many strays down there.

Unfortunately, we do not receive any monetary donations from hotels.

Thank you, Carma. Your post meant the world to me.

My response may be controversial for some, but this goal is weighing heavily and I'd like to share what we are wrestling with. I hope it opens the door for conversation.

First, I commend everyone who does this hard work and has goals to help more animals.

My worry is how is our infrastructure is equipped to take on any more until we fix the problems in our own "backyard." We are overwhelmed with animals that need temporary shelter, our vet costs are over the top, we have waitlists to take in more animals. We're fatigued and stretched to the limits trying to help our neighboring communities. The idea of bringing more animals into the equation is defeating.

I hate feeling this way, but it's real and forcing me to a breaking point. How are other people feeling, coping, etc.?

I concur wholeheartedly with you. The compassion fatigue and feeling like if I or we do not step up then I(we) am(are) responsible for the death of the animal. I am seriously considering counseling as this situation has caused me severe anxiety and depression which is just compounding the issue.

We are a TNR group however we feed so many  colonies that we always come across tame cats in need. Adoptions have slowed to a drip in the faucet compared to the amount that needs to come into a rescue program but our shelter has a 9 cat cap and our humane society has a 30 cat cap, so we get hit constantly for help even though we are not a rescue.

We are having a board mtg in February to discuss our future with the organization. I want to change our mission so that personally I do not see the cats at clinic anymore, 24 years of burnout. No one else wants to step up to the helm so I don't know.

I wish I had more encouraging words for you, but I think counseling is the only thing that can help me at this point. The guilt is consuming us all and we didn't cause the problem. I encourage others to look at counseling to at least maybe change our mindset that we cannot do it all.

I am the manager for our Pet Resource Services department. Our mission is to provide counseling, resources and case management to pet owners in our community to help keep pets in their loving homes and prevent them from having to be surrendered to a shelter. My main resolutions are:

    1. Increase the number of behavior calls we receive and improve the resource we can provide around training. Behavior issues is the 2nd biggest reason for dog surrender in our community, yet it only makes up a small portion of the calls to our department. I am researching and looking for opportunities to better connect with our community and offer support pet owners facing this issue.
    2. Making connections with social services organization aimed at providing services related to Legal Aid, Food Banks, affordable housing etc. so that we can work together to meet the needs of struggling pet owners and their pets.
    3. Update and brand all literature we provide to the public and make these resources easily accessible on our website.

    Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue

Since our rescue was formed just last year, our goal for 2025 is to grow our rescue and save more cats. We are hoping to increase our fundraising abilities so that we can continue to care for the cats we have saved and seek out funding to move to a larger building. We are scheduling adoption events with a local pet store.

We are located in a small city in NW Indiana that does not provide any government help for homeless cats. The city animal control and the city's contract with the county animal shelter, only allows for the rescue of dogs. Cats are not helped in any way. We have met with the mayor and the city council, and we are trying to raise community support to encourage the city to change their policy on cats. It just seems cruel.

    Hi Kate,

can you place an add in the local newspaper with your story? Put up signs?

I'm new to volunteering as a fundraiser. I'm trying everything. I post items for sale on eBay and use the  donate to charity portion tab on sales to my charity (Bruno Project Rescue). Maybe others you know could give you items to sell brining in funds?
we are having several events at a local knights of Columbus hall with raffles. We are asking businesses we go to to donate a small gift card to use as raffle prizes.
I'll keep trying to think of things to get funds to help feed the animals.
    Good luck, Kate!

We are a very small fundraising organization with 5 monthly donors currently.  We raise money mainly to help other organizations help people keep their pets. We also help organizations with TNR and transporting animals out of kill shelters. I'm ok with being small but my goal is to grow a little bit more, maybe have 10 or more monthly donors. I hope to achieve this without relying (solely) on social media.

Is there specific organizations that you help with transporting animals out of kill shelters? If you are open to helping another rescue that's one of the things that San Diego Last Chance Ranch does is take animals off the euthanasia lists at kill shelters and help them with their medical needs, training/socializing needs, and then getting them adopted into good homes. We also pull animals off the street and help them the same way. We do occasionally get relinquished animals as well but our main source of animals is from the kill lists. sdlcrrescue@gmail.com is the email if your interested.

Thank you that is so kind of you to say. Right now we are trying to open a cat cafe and a vet clinic with an adoption center and an enclosed feral cat sanctuary. If we can get one of these projects open and running by October I have an investor that wants to franchise it all over the world. This could potential help hundreds of thousands of cats world wide. So, if anyone wants to donate to the opening of the first cat cafe or first vet clinic/adoption center we can save a ton more cats. The investor just wants to know that the project will work before investing in a franchise. San Diego Last Chance Ranch will be supplying the cats to all the opened franchises so we could help other rescues that are over whelmed and also take hopefully all the cats off the euthanasia lists in various states. I am working on getting the 501c3 expanded one state at a time right now. If you now anyone wanting to donate please send them to SDLCR.org

I also want to help set up a coalition of rescues in northern AZ so that we can do spay/neuter/vaccinate clinics for the more rural parts of the state.

    Posted 01-31-2025 02:08 PM

    Hi Kathy,

I can definitely give some pointers! Grants tend to revolve around 4 main thing: Data, Reputation, Sustainability, and Community Support. I'll break down what I mean:

    1. Data: Grantors want to know exactly what their money is going to, so be as specific as you can possibly be. Know how many dogs you've taken in, their outcomes, how old they are (some grants are only for senior dogs), where you pulled them from (owner surrender, municipal shelter, etc.). Know how many volunteers you have, how many fosters you have, whether you have transporters, etc. Know where they're from. Are they all from MD? Just around Columbia, or are they statewide (I went to Hopkins in Baltimore, so I know there are LOADS of little towns around)? Are there people from out of state? Where are your adopters from? How much does medical cost for each dog? Has that amount increased? These questions and more can show the need, the community support, and it can show exactly how many dogs you will help, plus loads of other things. You're new so keep track of it now. There is nothing worse than trying to piece together data from sticky notes and receipts. There are plenty of data entry programs that help with this. I work with an org that uses Rescue Groups, others use ShelterLuv. Look around and pick which one is good for you. And for the love of dog, upload your invoices in there. That's someone a volunteer, or even someone you recruit from a local college as a volunteer, can do. If you have that, you can know that base medical costs $1000, so when you apply for a grant for 10k, you can say that this money will help you to save 10 dogs. Also makes it WAY easier to do reporting. Keep on top of that as well. Last minute reporting is just anxiety made flesh.
    2. Reputation: You're new so you need to build this up. It looks like you have a fair amount of volunteers, which is fantastic! You also want to build a rep with your community. Take your dogs on field trips wearing ADOPT ME vests (PetFinder and Athletes for Animals are good for grants for field trips). Ask businesses if you can put up adoption posters. I know lots of people are online, but I've legitimately gotten a long stay senior dog adopted in 2 weeks putting up posters. Be imaginative. Steal other people's ideas for cool and fun posters. Once you've established a relationship, ask for partnerships. Same with other rescues that you pull from. Record that so that on grants, you can show that you're not a raft in an ocean, you're a floating city. Show that other orgs and businesses want to work with you. Once you get established enough, you can make grants that specifically pull from certain shelters. Like I said, the more specific you can be, the better. Building a rep takes a while, but it shows a lot. This is not a field where running solo on everything is going to work. The more rep you build, the more local foundations will learn about you, the more likely it is that you'll get more and more support from your community, whether it's money or people who want to volunteer to people who will spread the word about you.
    3. Sustainability: Which leads me here. Sustainability shows grantors that you're not just relying on them to survive. It's hard to get grants, so while it's important to make a goal for grants as a part of your budget, you need to show that a grant will help you to succeed or exceed your goal, rather than your goal relying solely upon it. This is where you show other streams of income. Can be both in-kind donations, monetary donations, etc. Have a game plan to make your budget and show the grantor that. Grantors aren't going to give to sinking ships. They want to know their money is making a difference to improve, not just sustain.
    4. Community Support: I covered a lot of this in reputation but like everything, it connects to each of the others. You need to get your name out there. People can't help if they don't know you even exist.

For grants specifically, keep it in 3rd person. None of this "we" nonsense. Sob stories and pleas are amazing for FB fundraisers if you're trying to get enough for vet bills for a specific dog (a strategy you should include in your sustainability plan, and RECORD what you get so you can show grantors that it's successful up to a certain amount). Sob stories are no place for bigger grants. They want data. They want to know where every penny will be used, how it will be used, and how their money will help animals in your area and around the state. Go big picture, and then narrow it down. There is an overcrowding crisis in animal shelters. You getting their money to pull specific dogs from shelters means you're easing the pressure and giving those overcrowded shelters room to breathe and save more animals. Like I said, everything connects and we all have to work together. A grant is an argument that you can use their money more efficiently to make a bigger difference than other people can. Saying dogs will die without them is guilt tripping and it pisses people off. Saying "BPR will use this grant to transfer in 10 more dogs from XXXXX shelters, thus easing the burden of overcrowding" is a hell of a lot more effective than "Sunny needs a surgery and he'll be euthanized unless you give us money." Rely on relevant data. Give them prices for specific things. Know what your base medical includes. Know what each dog is going to cost, base medical wise. If you get the grant, have a google sheet that records where each cent went. Another great way to build reputation is to show these orgs that you're serious about their money and that you're organized. Nothing worse than someone saying they don't know what their money went do. Have a separate account for medical, and put the funds in there. It's fraud to get a grant for medical and then use it on a transport van. So record everything, including where the dogs that benefit came from. Grantors hate guilt tripping but they love pics of a dog and a story stating that their grant helped this specific dog get vaccines and be neutered, and that they came from a shelter with a XX% save rate (you can get that info from the Best Friends No Kill 2025 Map).

All of what I've said it to build up your ability to have a good chance when you apply for grants. Because you're so new, you have no rep yet so stick with local orgs, or the BIG ones. The Binky Foundation specifically offers a grant for new orgs. You were established in 2023 so it should still apply. PetFinder likewise has lots of smaller grants that can help with everything from field trip supplies to emergency medical. Bissell and Petco and bigger and they want more data, but it's a good place to start. Walmart gives grants as well. So does Tito's Vodka, Mars, Pedigree, etc. Start compiling a list of grants now to keep as you grow. Go to your local library and ask if they have Foundation Center on their computers. Most big libraries do. It's where you can find grants specific to what you're doing and your area. It costs money, but is free in most libraries. And for the love of dog, if you get a grant, write a thank you note, and send a thank you letter that includes the amount of the grant and that no goods or services were exchanged in return for the money. Foundations need that for their taxes and I've worked with foundations where I've had to hunt that down before. It's annoying and you don't want to annoy a potential repeat funder.

That's a novel, but it's a good start. Just, please, PLEASE, record everything in a spreadsheet or Google Sheet or on databases and keep on top of it. People have handed me 4 inch binders of random crap and it makes me angry. So I charge extra for data entry. I love writing grants but someone not keeping records and me having to make up for it pisses me off. Much better to do it as you go so you're not pulling all nighters or letting opportunities pass you by because you didn't have time to get everything in order.

If you have any other questions, go ahead and ask!

Also, I started writing grants for a rescue as a volunteer because I wanted a "safe place" to practice all while helping animals. Turns out I'm good at it and I love doing it. I did have mentors who would look over my work and gave me advice, so ask around your volunteer group if anyone has experience. They may not have time to write the grants, but if you say you just need an extra set of eyes, they may be able to help.

    Dear MK,

This is a wealth of incredibly valuable information for anyone needing help! I can't thank you enough!! I'm re-reading and building a file with notes and will follow all your suggestions!

I am new as a volunteer but the organization has been around since 2016, started by a physician! They have wonderful outcomes for the ones they can help - there's just so many homeless dogs and cats there being abused and thrown out like trash. I can't even tell you what I know so far - it's horrific.  I'm so determined to do what ever I can. I have the AKC grant to do! It's a little overwhelming but maybe I can ask you for a little help!

MK - you went way out of your way to help me and others who will surely see your post.

Driving home soon then will read this again and get to the grant!

We were told 3 days ago that we need to move. Do you have any suggestions for finding grants for capital investments? Our preference would be to acquire our new facility and move there. Since July, 2024, we have operating in a small private home. And it's time for us to move and be able to expand and grow our programs.

    Hi Kate,

Honestly, it boils down to my previous post. Keep it data-driven rather than emotional, read about the org to see if your goals fit theirs, and while it isn't necessary, I've found making grants program-specific (like for TNR) rather than general is more helpful. Just like you wanting to know how your donations will be spent, so do grantors. The more specific you can be, the better.

As for finding grants, Foundation Center for a deep dive, or go to the 990s of similar orgs and see if they have listed the grants they've received. Follow them on social media. Look for opportunities in your community. Credit unions support local causes. A lot of stores do as well. When you go for national grants, you're competing against hundreds of other orgs. Community org grants are going to have a smaller pool for that. And like I said to Kathy, have someone look over it who is even close to the field. Just gotta ask (but be careful about asking if you can read one of their grants to get an idea of what to do. I've had people ask me that for grants that I've spent 40+ hours on. Just leaves a bad taste.)

If you need a good book, "The Only Grant-writing Book You'll Ever Need" is one I devoured.

As we enter into our 8th year for our Senior Cat Sanctuary, we are focusing some of our efforts on grants specifically geared towards Sanctuary care. They are difficult to find and obtain, but are needed as our geriatric cats care continue to increase in care costs, and grants could help offset the downward trend of public donations.

Summerlee Foundation is the one I know off of the top of my head that focuses on sanctuaries, though I know there are others. Follow orgs similar to yours and check out their 990s that might list previous grantors. Also, look for local foundations or businesses that might be interested in sponsoring a senior cat (which will give them great PR and a tax write off). Maddie's Fund also has some great ideas for fundraisers. I know I've seen people use their "neuter your ex" strategy for a TNR or S/N fundraiser during valentine's day.

Our organization starts our 4th year, after major restructuring last year.

In 2024, our name was changed from Central Arkansas Rescue Transport to the Coalition of Animal Rescue Transporters to reflect our updated business strategy.

The mission of the Coalition of Animal Rescue Transporters (CART) is to collaborate and share opportunities to transport rescue animals from shelters and rescues to the same in other states that have more adoption demand than in the Coalition members' home area.

CART acts as a service provider to Coalition members, assisting with:

    ·       Client management – finding new destination partners and finalizing transport relationships

    ·       Initial transport planning and logistics

    ·       Maintenance of Best Practice Standards, developing a high-quality transport program shared by members, and

    ·       Funding primarily by grants from third parties.

Last year, our Coalition collaboratively transported 1,195 animals out of Arkansas to 15 partners in 5 states.  In 2025, our (admittedly ambitious) goal is to move 2,000 animals out-of-state!

Our goal is to acquire our new facility so that we can expand our programs and provide much more to our community. Presently, due to limited space,  we are only able to make and sell our  high quality human-grade nutritionally balanced dog and cat foods. And provide classes on dog and cat nutrition in our area.

We are also very excited to be developing our working cats program and are expecting to be able to launch that this year as well! While adding in these new options, we will still be providing TNVR and socialization/adoption.

My personal goal is to work on a binder of important resources and information in preparation to start my own Senior Dog Rescue and Sanctuary. Also, I would like to take a grant writing course.

Thank you for the opportunity to share our 2025 goals. As a small nonprofit, our mission has always been to support rescues and keep people and pets together through education and behavior services. Until now, our focus has been primarily on canines.

However, in 2024, we became involved with community cats and quickly realized the pressing need for feline support. In response, we are expanding our mission in 2025 to include community cats. We recently funded our first neutering service, marking the beginning of this new chapter.

While we continue to grow our canine programs, we are excited to introduce "Kitty Kat Corner"-an initiative dedicated to feline welfare. Our 2025 plans include updating our website, welcoming a feline-savvy board member, creating educational materials on TNR and FeLV, and surveying our community to better understand how we can best serve our feline friends.

We are Furever Friends Rescue,  small non-profit 501c3, in our second year.  We are a foster based rescue based on Long Island. We saved so many dogs and cats this year from our local shelters and the streets. We've given medical care to many animals in need. This year's goals are to get more foster homes available for our animals. We also want to learn how to apply for more grants. We are also interested in working with the public to educate to public on fostering, adoption and all of the volunteer opportunities we have that are big and small! We have done pet expo and used that opportunity to educate the public about our organization. We have a great social media presence and we want to be consistent with our information about our animals on a daily basis with the help of many volunteers.  We hope to partner with libraries to do childrens programs about foster animals. Maybe read to them and have them draw pets.

Our 2025 goal is to move from mostly foster homes to an actual building dedicated to the socialization of the cats and community awareness.  We want to continue collecting the strays and TNVR the ferals, but we also want to encourage the community to work together to stop cats from being left behind when renters move.  Half the community has no idea that there is even a cat problem in our small town.

    Hi Tracy,

I love your goal for bringing feral cats indoors.

One of our programs has a similar purpose. Two on my three cats were formerly  feral.

I think your idea of educating people in the value of  re-homing or giving their cats to a rescue is so important.

Good luck with acquiring your new facility.

This year, I would like to start up our newsletter and get into a free fundraising platform. We are in a rural area where our donors still send in checks, so initially our newsletters will have to go out by snail mail, but hopefully we can get into email and start getting donations through PayPal. Also going to dip my toes into looking at Grants. I always feel like it's a giant mountain and I don't have the time, however if I don't try then I won't know what to do the next time, right?

I've been reflecting a lot on where I want to go next in my career. After spending 18 years as an Animal Care Associate at the East Bay SPCA, I've been trying to figure out how to take everything I've learned and apply it in new ways. It hasn't been an easy transition as i had to retire from my previous position as an Animal Care Associate due to physical concerns, but I know I still have so much to offer in the animal welfare field.

My main goal is to move into a consultant role where I can help shelters and rescues improve animal care, especially when it comes to behavior and enrichment. I have a particular soft spot for cats, so I'd love to focus on feline behavior and welfare.  Senior dogs and cats have always been another area of interest for me so I have been looking into ways to help them, as well.

Another big goal of mine is to start writing about my experiences-maybe through articles, blog posts, or even a book. After nearly two decades in the field, I have so many stories, lessons, and insights that could help others working in shelters. I'd also love to connect with publications or organizations that focus on animal welfare and behavior.

Finally, I want to stay involved in the community-whether that's through volunteering, engaging in forums like this one, or networking with others in the field. Even though I'm in a period of career transition, I don't want to lose touch with the work I love.

    Hello.

I have an animal control program essentially in infancy stage still, as the last two ACOs were here for only a yr and half each, and then prior it was regional services for approx 5 years.  My biggest goal is to get the community aware and involved with the shelter and its programs.  I am hoping to create a strong foster and volunteer program this year, to be able to help with my shelter upgrade requests in the upcoming years.

In 2025, we are working hard to extend our public reach, increase adoptions, donations and foster base while working to  improve the lives of our pets in care. We have built a small but mighty village this far, but that only allows us to help so many.  We've also developed a relationship with another organization and have begun brainstorming initiatives to assist our community (southeast Texas) in limiting the numbers of dogs entering shelters and being abandoned to the streets (training assistance, vet care, temporary boarding, supplemental supplies, etc.)

Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue is in a city (Portage, Indiana) that does not allow Animal Control to help homeless cats. They will only respond to calls about cats if the cat is so sick or injured that it needs to be taken directly to a vet to be euthanized. The City of Portage pays into the fund for a county animal shelter, but again, they only pay for the shelter to accept dogs, not cats. Other cities pay for both to be helped. Our rescue has become the unofficial cat shelter for the city with no support from the city. We have met with the mayor and the city council. They will not change this policy.

Our goals for 2025 are to improve our efforts to help homeless cats in Portage by raising funds and applying for grants, but also to launch a campaign for residents to be aware of the city's "no help for cats" policy and try to get the city to change this policy.

    Hello.

I have the same ordiances for cats and it is frustrating.  I am allowed to help sick or injured only,  and I do not have  safe space for cats- they end up in dog carriers.  I am fighting hard to build at least a catio, I have volunteers that have offered to help construct them, and I have companies offering to donate supplies, and I am still hitting road blocks.  I had a budget presentation where I broke it all down for the Finance dept, along with the statutes and laws that state why things need to happen, and I am currently waiting on those results.  I dont understand why we cant help cats as well, I understand no TNR due to limited funds, and accountability, but for me to refuse people needing to surrender cats or assist in adopting them out is frustrating.  I am open to any suggestions on how to get communities and pockets to understand the need for safe spaces for cats.  Thanks
