What has your experience been with pet insurance? Do you utilize it with your pet? Why or why not?

If you do utilize pet insurance, what has your experience been? Would you recommend insurance to other animal owners as well?

    Hi Malia,

As someone who avoided purchasing pet insurance for years, I would 100% recommend pet insurance for anyone. I have an accident prone three year old pup and I have found insurance to be a LIFE SAVER. After a lot of research I went with Nationwide, they cover 90% of expenses after the deductible. I chose a $250 deductible so that was satisfied with the first visit. The downside is you have to pay for all of your services upfront and get reimbursed but the reimbursement process is very easy (complete online) and they usually approve it the same day or early the next day.

Happy to answer any further questions about pet insurance but YES 100% recommend.

Totally agree! I used to skip pet insurance, too, but after dealing with my accident-prone pup, it's been a game-changer. Nationwide has been great-90% coverage after the deductible, and reimbursements are super quick. Paying upfront is the only downside, but it's worth it for the peace of mind.

After I lost a young cat with several thousand dollars in vet bills, I purchase pet insurance for my other cat.  Since then, he has visited the emergency vet twice. Once for not eating and once for a linear foreign body.  I do keep a cash reserve for emergency medical expenses, so I don't have to make hard decisions immediately. But the pet insurance did payout for both emergency visits.  Like all insurance, it is a gamble, but I keep it for peace of mind and am glad that I have it.

That's a smart approach! Pet insurance can be a lifesaver for unexpected emergencies, and it's great that it's given you peace of mind.

Even with a cash reserve, knowing you have coverage takes some of the stress out of tough situations.

It is a gamble, but when it pays off, it's worth it. Glad your cat is getting the care they need without the added financial strain!
