What are the 4 social media sites you think are most important for an animal welfare organization to be on?

For us, we focus on Facebook and Instagram, as that's where all our social media adoption enquiries will come from.  That's where I would suggest you keep your focus. Start a Meta Business Account (now called Business Portfolio). Make sure at least 2 of you can access that, this being a nightmare we are currently disentangling), then set a Facebook page up and an instagram account. Or bring existing ones under your Meta Business too.

Because we don't want to just reach Portugal - we adopt across Europe and have sent kittens to North America too - we've found Instagram is great for that wider reach as the reels get picked up by the algorithm and shown more widely.

We've restarted YouTube for our educational content (lost control of the old channel so have launched a new one).

    Our less-used socials are:

    • TikTok (didn't get much traction so have put that on hold, though we have a young supporter who would like to do some)
    • LinkedIn (very occasional posts)
    • Pinterest (didn't really work and didn't have time to put into that)
    • Twitter (have really stopped using it as most of our followers all left but do a post every so often).

We have seen different platforms work for different organizations so we thought it was best to try a few different ones ourselves. For us our facebook has seen the most interaction from our supporters. Our instagram doesn't have nearly as many followers but our followers do interact. We also have a Tiktok, Youtube and Twitter, with Twitter and youtube having the least interaction.  With that said most of our social media focus is on FB.

For us, Facebook has been our primary social media vehicle.  We recently added Instagram, primarily to broaden the demographics that we were reaching.  Facebook seems to be more popular with an older crowd where as Instagram reaches the younger generations better.

Facebook, Instagram, TikTok (maybe), and Twitter (maybe). Our group is on the first three-not sure about Twit-sorry, X--since I don't visit that anymore.
