Hi everyone. Today's story touches on the exact reason we are fighting so hard to expand our rescue into a large rural sanctuary.
Lily was on the verge of being adopted, but her stress levels skyrocketed as the day approached. She was clearly telling us she wasn't ready for another new environment. We stopped the adoption process.
Why we chose a sanctuary path for Lily:
- Listening to the dog: True rehabilitation means honoring a dog's emotional timeline over standard adoption metrics.
- Preserving her spirit: Moving too fast breaks the spirit of dogs who need deep stability.
- Providing a safe haven: Lily needed the familiar routine of Boo's Crew to remain calm, secure, and balanced.
I wrote this from Lily's perspective to honor her voice:
Lily barked at me the other day. This is what she had to say.
"I'm tired of going somewhere new.
May I please stay, in the Rescue?I'm worn out from trying to find,
A family that, I call mine. It's stressing me out, no matter how kind, The people are that you find. I need my friends at Boo's Crew still, To feel secure, calm and chill! I can't achieve this on my own, For now, may I, call this home? I won't need you, but it's not today,
I'm begging you, let me Stay!"
Let's Discuss:
Have you ever had to stop an adoption because the animal explicitly told you they just weren't ready? How do you balance adoption goals with long-term sanctuary needs?
📍 About Boo's Crew GSD Rescue (Moscow, ID):
We are a 501(c)(3) pioneering a multi-tiered shelter-diversion model. We are actively seeking capital grant partners to match our upcoming 15-50 acre USDA rural sanctuary expansion, which will scale our intensive in-home rehabilitation and launch a public, donation-based trail system. To maximize our current community impact, we also operate a Direct Home-to-Home Placement matrix, funding critical initial veterinary care to keep dogs completely out of regional shelters.
